Posts: 1283 | Picked one of these up for a decent price and put it on a 7'6" St Croix Premeir MHF rod. What baits would you consider ideal for this combo. I wont be chucking DBL 10s or pounders with it. This is more for the GF or a loaner/back up.

Posts: 205 | I use reg dawgs done a little with mag dawgs, smaller bucktails 8's and smaller its killer really moves them fast, topwater prop baits. Not good for walk the dog baits picks up line to fast cant get any slack at least that's the issue I have had.

Posts: 537 Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | I really like how it feels, I mostly throw surface baits with it. It does sound horrible on the cast after some use, but works great.

Posts: 345 Location: Poynette WI. | Sounds like a great Suick set up or anything of the like. I love high speed reels for picking up slack and working fast erratic baits. This reel is very comparable to a 300ej but with more drag. I like using 7"6 or shorter rods with jerk/stick baits or any sort of twitch bait.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | If it makes noise on the cast pull the spool and put a drop of good reel oil on each end of the spool axle. This is common with many reels especially if you fish hard water lakes, fortunately it doesn't get much easier to access the spool than on a Lexa. - loosen the screw inside the middle of the magnetic control - once the screw is loose twist the side plate, the side plate will come open giving you access to the spool

Posts: 1100 | Mine also screams like something i can't describe, iv'e search the forum but can't find anything on the bushing. If anyone can help a bit more it would be awesome. It's a great reel to use, for small tubes, spinnerbaits and bucktails used it first time today and caught a nice fish, and the drag was smooth and worked like a charm. Just need to get rid of the noise.

Posts: 1100 | To all of you that have one that screams, have you gotten it fixed ? or do you just use it, and ignore the noise?

Posts: 1100 | I gave the bearings a drop of oil and it helped a lot, but it's still way to noisy, if it's just the bearings that are poor, i gladly buy some new ones, really love the reel fir what i intended to use it for. But the sounds is still to much, it way more noisy than, any other reels i have, also reels with synchronized level winds, that have a bunch of moving parts.

All of the 300 Lexa reels I have done do not come out smooth, they are VERY NOISY REELS !!!!! The 6 gears do not hold up to Musky baits. U can add a bearing to the side frame will help a little. U have to remenber that it is a Price Point reel and it will never be as smooth as a 300-400D Calcutta.

Posts: 1100 | yes i got the 6/1 gear, the reel is smooth enough on the retrieve. its only when casting, when the spool rotate at very high speed in the beginning of the cast, it almost sounds like the spool it out of balance, or something.

Posts: 1283 | Played with it today for a bit and it definitely screams on the cast compared to a NACL, but seems like a nice reel besides that.
