Hi Fellas,

How many of you guys who have a kicker do not use it on a regular basis, so it just kind of hangs off the end of your boat each year ?

I have a kicker on my boat, and honesty, I just do not use it other than to start it up 1-2 times a year, and then get it winterized at the end of each season.

I just do not enjoy trolling, so I pretty much cast full time for muskies, and for walleye I primarily lindy rig.

I understand some like having the kicker for a back up, but my main motor is very reliable, and I do not fish anyplace where a trolling motor could not get me back to the dock.

Thinking it is time to let it go.

I don't have a kicker but it sounds like you've answered your own question. If you really don't use it to troll, and don't need it in an emergency situation, I'd sell it!

Even primarily fishing small Indiana lakes, there have been occasions for me to use my kicker to get back to the ramp. It is also an "insurance policy" when fishing big water (LSC) or remote areas in Canada. I thought I'd use mine to troll, but do so rarely (every couple of years, maybe). But I don't want a boat without one. If that isn't your pattern, then you need to do what is best for you. My $0.02.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I understand the insurance part, but to be honest, it just annoys me that I never use the darn thing, and it does cause a slight tilt on my boat also.

It is time to go. Only time will tell if I made the right decision, but then I will only have myself to blame.

Ever thought of just getting a motor stand to put it on when you don't really need it?

That is what I do when I will be fishing waters that I don't need the kicker... Guarantees I have it when I need it and can safely store it away when not in use.

Hi Steve,

Actually, yes, in fact I built a stand in garage to do just that, but after closer inspection, in order to get my kicker off requires me to take quite a bit more off than just the kicker ( trim / tilt ) my set up is not an easy off / easy on set up.

get a quick connector for your trim tilt. Then go to a place that sells snow plows, and get a power connector set for the battery cable. Easy on, easy off.

Thanks Shep,

My set up is from 2004. I could not find a quick disconnect option when I looked before for the trim/tilt, but I will give it another college try. In order to remove right now, I am required to remove 6 bolts, which I would then need to do something about the bolt holes each time.

Sounds like you either have to deal with it on or sell it and buy another that is easier to use. I have a 06 8hp Honda four stroke. That I remove when not in use. Just undo the fuel line in the t and install the plug and it goes on a stand in my garage. 20 minutes max.
