Posts: 174 Location: Naperville, IL | Does anyone on here have experience with a 7'2" medium heavy rod throwing DCG'S? Does it work well or not enough rod?

Posts: 1283 | Not enough rod. With my 7'6" St croix MH it was a chore. It can be done but 8ft h or better is the way to go.

Location: MN | Have you ever used long rods? I would not use anything less than 8'6" for dcg's and prefer 9 or longer. A longer rod will make it easier to cast and easier to do a good 8. TI's xh is a good cowgirl rod for a good price.

Posts: 219 | 8'6" heavy Toothtamer gets my vote. The longer rod will suit you better, but sometimes shorter rods, although MH will be stout enough. For example, I have used a 7'2" MH and 7' MH with Double 10's and caught fish..no issues at all. A longer rod is easier however....from casting to boat side Fig 8's. If you have it, try it...if your going to buy a rod I would suggest to follow the advice given and try a tad longer rod. Check out the Toothtamer line: Light, durable, and affordable.

Posts: 1283 | I should prob mention Im using 9ft TI rods now and they are great. I prefer the XXH over the XH. It just seems to do everything better including chucking smaller blades. I also own St Croix and MI rods and spend a day using Toothtamers a week ago. All are good but the TIs have been getting all the use. The rods themselves are awesome but the handles really make them comfortable, easier to cast all day and figure 8.

Posts: 68 | your Med/hvy rod is NG at all for big blades my preference the 8'6" slingblade rod best out there for big blades it's made just for doing that and I think with the best warranty out there and the lightest rod weight. U need a minimum of 8'6 there were a few nice rods up on here somewhere JB

Location: Contrarian Island | Sling blade imo is not a good rod for blades w a reel like a Tranx or Saltist, tip is way too soft and you are fighting the tip instead w reels like that... it's a great rod for blades w a 'normal' reel like TE/Winch etc...but not for burning them
