I pulled out my muskie baits today and was changing and resharpening hooks when I pulled out a Hawg Wobbler that bled paint all over. What do you guys use to stop this and where do you get it from?

Your hawg wobbler did what????

If you describe what happened, maybe we can help. I've never seen a lure that had paint pouring out of it though!? Maybe your bait has been in contact with a soft plastic lure which has caused the coating to "melt" and become soft and sticky?

Nothing you can do about that now, except remove the entire sticky part of the coating and sand it smooth. Repaint it and add envirotex on this lure.

Generally speaking epoxy coatings are not affected by soft plastic lures so you can, in theory, add soft plastic lures and lures that have been epoxied in the same box.

What Divani said.

I think he nailed it on the head.

Shorty...

Mouldy's uses very basic paints to paint his stuff...they don't have the thick envirotex finishes that some of the others do. I have a hard time believing that the paint started to run without the chemical reaction to another bait.

In any event if you so feel inclined I would consider sending it back to Mouldy's if you feel it's a warranty issue. Or send it to me and I'll take it up there for you, Terry is a friend of mine and I live about 4 miles from his shop.

I'd like to say it was bleeding from being destroyed by a muskie, but it haven't had any hits thru the ice yet.

I own probably 8 hawg wobblers and just about every one has paint coming off of them. Its almost like they melt and the paint gets runny and sticky. Maybe they are reacting to something, but none of my other lures do this.

I love the lures and have no desire to trade them in or sell them back, I'd just like to stop the bleeding. The paint really makes a mess of my tackle boxes and my hands. Where do I get this envirotex?

Menards, hobby stores, craft stores all have envirotex. Just folow the instructions and remember it will run off, it takes a long time to set up.

If you kept in near other baits it could of had a reaction, if was in a box all year with stale air and heat they will do that even with enviortex.

and envirotexing over sticky paint makes a mess a bigger mess!! Don,'t do it. Remove all the paint from this lure (these lures) and paint them again. THEN apply envirotex.

I have had a similar experience with some small Grandmas and Jakes. the paint didnt really bleed, just got sticky. Just clean up the mess, repaint if needed, and coat with envirotex. This worked great for me.

I think it a good idea to let Terry and the boys at Mouldy's know this is happening. He can't correct a problem he doesn't know is there.

I had this same problem with a black wobbler.I figured that it probably came in to contact with some plastic. The paint has seemed to dry up now though. So back in the box it went,I have been throwing it ever since.Still a great bait in my eyes, but was that ever strange!!!
