I thought I had blown a fuse or had wiring issues on my trailer as the blinker and brake lights worked on the trailer, but the running lights didn't work.

Instead of plugging the trailer wires into the adapter that goes into the truck, I plugged them directly into the normal plug in on the truck.

Everything worked just fine. So I assumed the adapter was bad, so I grabbed another adapter and have the same problem.

Am I safe to assume the receiver part on my truck is bad? I wouldn't be concerned except that I am going to be towing a buddy's boat next week that has trailer brakes and have no way of knowing if the trailer brakes are going to work if my received on the truck is bad.

The brakes are most likely surge brakes, so no power is needed for application. Backing up, you will have to manually engage the reverse lock out, unless you are using a 5 pin adapter and the truck reverse light pin is working. I still would get your truck recepticle checked, as I wouldn't want to make a trip without the running lights working.

my running lights have quit working and everytime it was a fuse, even when the fuse checker said the fuse was good I changed it and they started working again. My thought is I might have a wire exposed on my trailer or my truck, the first time this happened to me I was on my way home from kinkaid and drove through a major rain storm,I had to drive with my 4 ways on at dark in thick fog,the fog made it look like I was being very safe having the 4 ways on.

Yep, I thought it was a fuse as I have had that issue in the past. Changed the trailer wiring and it solved the fuse blowing issue.

I know it's not the fuse this time because I know it works plugging the trailer wire directly into the truck instead of using the adapter.

At a auto parts store you can get a gizmo that plugs into your truck 4way plug and it lets you know what is working. That would be a good place to start. If the truck side is okay, then check the trailer ground and if that okay, wiring may be at fault.

He's a pic of it and the red lights will luminate when its on.

Thanks for that head's up. But the part that looks like that works fine when I plug into that part. It's the round receiver part I am having problems with. Maybe I can plug that into the adapter and then into the receiver.

pull the back off the round plug in and check that all the wires are connected, with that being on the truck it gets full of road crap and bumped around on occasion so the wires can be corroded or knocked loose, simple procedure and most likely the culprit
