Planning on taking my nephew to Shabbona in the morning but have no idea where to start. I've been there a couple of times before but haven't even seen a musky, any advice would be appreciated.

Call Ron Faulk, he is the man to get on musky there. Other than that, have fun with all of the trees to get snagged on Lol

Thanks for all replies..... I think I'll start by casting outside weed edge in the main lake area. Should I consider the "slopier" no wake zone or stay deeper with this cold snap we got today?

I would not hit the no wake zone because I haven't had any action back there this year but I have been having decent action in some of the deep trees on gliders and cranks.

Try the northeast bay too and don't be too scared to give a couple of hours very shallow. A lot of times cool weather here in IL will drop the water temps in the shallow water quicker than the deep water. Those fish will give up in that cooler water. Not an exact, but just a suggestions.
Now that I think about it, there are no exacts when dealing with muskies. HA!

If I didn't contact any fish after 4 or 5 hours of casting, I would be washing lures behind the boat.

Good Luck !!

Bring a lure retriever and work the cribs, rockpiles and deep trees. The baitshop sells a map with most of the cribs and rockpiles marked. If that doesn't work than troll the old creek channel and adjacent flats. It's been one of the better years out there with the cleaner water. Hope you two catch a whopper...good luck.

I am a fan of a 7.5" Grandma on the lake. Fish the deep trees, channel edges.

Thanks so much for the replies. I took my 13 year old nephew to Vilas and he landed his first and second muskies.....34" and 31", he has been fishing bass for a few years now but he seems to have a bit of the "BUG" and wants to go out again for muskies. We have about 4 hours to hit it on Shabbona, I'll post an update to let you guys know where and what we get them on!!!!!!!
