Posts: 15 | I'm wondering if any of you vets can help me out. I was wondering if you guys know when the best time is to go for muskies in these warm weather months? I know all about not handling the fish a lot in the heat so there safe. I really want to try and catch one though and I've been fishing for these elusive fish for a year now and still haven't caught one, I've had follows but none caught yet. Thought I could get some help from vets out there if I could it would be greatly appreciated.

Posts: 161 Location: New Jersey | Almost every respectable musky fisherman I know in NJ, which includes the members of Chapter 22 of Muskies Inc, do not fish for muskies when surface temps are above 80 degrees. That is pretty much all of July and August. I can tell you're gung-ho and I know the feeling, but it's much more important to protect our fishery. There are 10 other months to fish for Muskies in NJ. We don't have the benefit of natural reproduction and the last thing you want to see is a trophy go belly up because you couldn't wait until September. Fishing is much better when the temps start coming down. Summer is a good time for a road trip.

Posts: 455 | There is some rain and a cold front pushing through next week. That should cool the larger lakes down a bit. Keep an eye on temps and go barbless so you don`t have to net them and work on hooks. Tigers do bite this time of year. If the temps stay in the 80ies than you may want to give it a break. I have a lot of experience so it`s easy for me but if you rig a barbless plug or two you should be ok just unkooking in the water. They follow a lot Tom. Sooner or later one bites.

Posts: 455 | Water temps up to 82 so that is the danger zone. Tom if you want a picture of your first that is the best thing to do. Hit it hard in the fall. I`m in Whitehouse so not too far from you.

Posts: 483 Location: NE PA | i believe the delaware holds some muskies from the watergap northward, and seems to keep moderate temps through the year... Edited by lennyg3 7/13/2014 4:11 PM

Posts: 455 | More than some. Not all big but tens of thousands of fish stocked every year.
