Caught this off the dock on Lake Nokomis with a sucker minnow on a quick strike rig. I now see why people say it's so dangerous to get into cause you just want to do it all day after the first one.

Only unfortunate part was that I had mistakenly left my scale and measure in the car and i wanted to get the fish back in the water. From pictures i figured roughly 40 inches and around 20 pounds.

Caught another smaller one a few days after. A little 32 inch but still lots of fun.

I have a boat that i got this year and was excited to use but my luck has been better from the dock which is kind of frustrating. Any ideas or things I can try for success from the boat? Part of it is i could use more baits but being a college student i don't have a ton of money to spend.

Lots of fun!

I'm guessing your DNR put some brush, trees some kind of structure around the dock area where you have been fishing. I'd would just try to find that same type structure around the lake. Also note that if the DNR did put some type of fish habitat in the lake they will usually mark it on maps for the public.
