Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | Went to one of my favorite lakes in Vilas County on Friday and encountered the same problem I've found in other lakes: no weeds. None. Seems that on many lakes the unusually long winter, thick ice, and heavy snow killed off many or all the weed beds. In their place now are empty points, bays and mud flats.
We concentrated on the rocks and managed to boat one 'ski and raise a few others, but expected to see more fish in this particular lake. (Winds and waves kept us off the sharp breaks.)
My questions: have you seen significant weed loss on other lakes, and how are you modifying your fishing to compensate?

| During other years when I've seen a significant weed shortage in Wisconsin, my fishing has suffered as well. It can be tough to maintain focus, especially when with friends, also accustomed to the same weed pattern. One thing to be cautious of is once you do find a nominal amount of weed, don't spend too much time on it, as that can burn you out. |

Rusties?
Not that I know of.
BTW, after I posted this I realized it was in the wrong forum. I tried moving it but couldn't figure out a a way to do so.

Location: NE Ohio | the fish are feeding somewhere, they don't just starve themselves. find the food and they'll be there. when i've had years like that i've finally found them in laydowns and open water. time to think "outside the boat" and get-r-done! good luck. |
