I'm mounting a minkota maxxum on my boat and wondering which side to mount it on? It fits on either side. What is your preference? and why.

Thanks,
Andy

I like it on the Port side also because I do lots of night fishing and the green light from the front light lets me see my lure as it get close to the boat. If the motor was on the other side it somewhat shadow the light to the water. This "Starboard" green light comes in very handy for night fishing. Remember that your light must be taller than the trolling motor for all to see, its a law. In some cases you must buy a longer bow light after mounting a trolling motor.

Port side in generaly the rule. This comes from the fact that in a boat with a side console it is on the Starboard side of the boat. In some instances the trolling motor could interfere with your vision while driving the boat. Only us "high performance" yahoos know these things. lol

Well, us low performance tiller guys prefer it mounted on the starboard so that it's not in the way of the bow partner for a drift presentation or boat control maneuver where the trolling motor is not deployed.

Not sure if you run a tiller or not...

Another good reason to have it on the port side is that the passenger is the one getting wet every time you take off to another spot.
