What qualities should I look for in a rod?

Lenght ?, Material ? Action ?

Any specific models that can be suggested ?

You will get as many answers as posts. I have caught hundreds of fish trolling. I like my diawa accudepth 9'6" heavy dipsey diver rods. 32 bucks no reason to spend big money on a trolling rod. 7' catfish rods work too, good sucker rods.

I use Ugly Stik dipsey diver rods with Cabela's Depthmaster Linecounter reels. Same rigs we use on Lake Superior for salmon and lake trout. Todd is so right, no need to fork over the big bucks for trolling rigs.

Ditto on the posts above, you don't need to spend big money on trolling rods, just something that's fiberglass and flexible, especially if you're going to be trolling rocks in the late fall. I had an old Penn rod explode on me one fall when my lure got hung up, another reason to not overspend on these rods.
