| When I was a kid I caught my first muskie in the lake I grew up on. It was about 25 inches. What made it interesting is it is a lake that is not stocked with muskies, it does not have a natural population and there are no inlets or outlets. My old man recently met with a biologist who is working on the lake. He asked my dad if he had ever seen muskies in the lake. My dad told him about the fish I caught. He said he asked because he saw two tigers in a bay doing the mating dance this Spring. He said one was in the 30's and the other one was real small which leads me to believe there are two year classes. Do you think the pure strain I caught about 13 years ago got in the lake from getting in the batch of walleyes the DNR stocks regularly or do you think a private party stocked it? Are the walleye and musky hatcheries in the same facilities or separate? Do you think the musky I caught was able to find some pike to make some tigers with or do you think it is more likely that someone is stocking tigers? I read another thread on here and it sounds like muskies aren't exactly cheap to purchase. There are no tiger lakes in this area so it would be a long way to transport the fish if they were caught somewhere else. Do you think a population of tigers could establish itself without the assistance of stocking? Coincidentally this lake did not have Pike in it when my grandpa and dad were younger. They were introduced by a local lake resident that thought it would be fun to have pike in the lake. Here I thought I wouldn't be able to musky fish on the 4th of July because I had to be at a family gathering on the lake. I guess I was wrong.  | |||
