You walk into your bait shop with only $20. You find the "one" you want but it comes in both wood and hard plastic and they both are identical in size, weight, color, etc.. for $20 each. do you buy the plastic or the wood?

Certain baits are better in wood / plastic then others. But if I had the same bait in wood and plastic I will 100% of the time choose wood. It just tends to be more inconsistent with its action. Which to me is a good thing, others might not agree

Interesting question. In a lot of lures, I have both. I do agree that if you get a wood lure that has "it"...it is magical. Problem is that the wood will eventually change and wear out. On the plastic side, if you get one that works...it's a fish catching machine and will last a lot longer. If its a topwater or jerkbait, I'll probably get the wood. If its a crankbait, hands down I"m going with the plastic.

Funny , I do a lot of cust painting of crane baits. Guys tend to pic through and take the gnarliest shaped ones. The more erratic the better in those cases. Trolling on the other hand, I go plastic.

Well, interesting question Wood or plastic or lead/wire: you have to know how to add so called soul in them. Otherwise they are just piece of wood/plastic/whatever in your box, IMHO

Plastic will run more true usually like stated above, but once you have a water logged wooden jerkbait (suick), muskies beware!

Where do you find wooden lures for a double sawbuck. I want my lures wired through for trolling so I use a lot of wood. When casting I wear out about 2 suicks a year haven't run across a plastic one yet but would like to try one.

They both have advantages/disadvantages. Wood expands and contracts, wood gets wet, rots, and is inconsistent from one piece to another. With plastic baits if you get a nick point and water gets in, no big deal, with a wood bait it may expand and destroy the lure. I like both but if the bait runs well and is built tough I would choose plastic every time. Some baits just too many moving parts for wood and plastic becomes mandatory.

Wood suicks just have always caught fish...I just wish the paint would stay on better on the weighted suicks..
