Posts: 4 | Hi Guys, I have never even targeted muskies before, let alone caught one. As such, I have absolutely no idea how to estimate the size of any fish that weighs more than 5 lbs. I was lucky enough to stumble into this beauty earlier today and was hoping you guys could help me out with a length/weight estimate. I tip the scales at 6'2" 260 lbs, FWIW Thanks! P.S. - After this experience I'm pretty sure I will be investing in some muskie gear...... Attachments ---------------- BIG.jpg (151KB - 222 downloads)

Posts: 4 | The addiction is about to take over.......hang on. Tell me about it..... I was wading in knee deep water with about 6 feet of line between my rod tip and lure (a 4 inch soft plastic craw bait of all things) when I saw the flash of teeth and gills. I instinctively set the hook (and had a mini heart attack) and then my drag started singing. I have caught many fish in my life but nothing can compare to the rush I experienced yesterday. I'm definitely hooked!!!! Now to go about getting geared up... But I'm sure that's a whole other topic

Posts: 532 | By no means am I trying to take away from the fish but look at the photo, the fish took a great photo. Check out the size of the OP hand by the tail, the head apears to be big but compair it to the hand just behind the head its average sized. He is holding the fish away from his body... It bigger than the average 3 footer but it isnt over 40. Again I am not diminishing the catch but the closer i looked at the pic the further away from mid 40 it gets

Posts: 1144 Location: Minnesota. | 40" maybe 18 lbs. I don't weight fish so that's a WAG. Nice fish for your first one dude. Welcome to the fray. It will change your life! And really, size isn't all that important. It's that take and the fight for me. I've taken a few 50's and some of the best fights have come from smaller fish. -Except that one big guy in early Oct. !!!*G* YMMV Jeremy. Edited by Jeremy 6/16/2014 1:24 PM

Posts: 54 Location: Minnesota | Don't worry about the lenght just worry about how expensive that fish is going to be. Your going to now want to catch more and bigger. No matter what others say its a nice fish or should we say gateway drug (fish). Congrats now stay off my spots! Jk

Posts: 255 | you've made two mistakes. first you entered a musky fishing forum, second you asked how big. good luck. my 2 cents: about 39, i can stretch to 40.5. nice fish! gets you hooked and then you have a million questions, and then you can't catch another one while casting specifically for them forever with all the best advice here.

Posts: 4 | vegas492 - 6/16/2014 1:44 PM 42 or 43. Great fish. Healthy looking. Probably put up a great, great fight! Great catch. Between the multiple powerful runs and the head shaking taildancing jump attempts, it sure was an awesome fight. Thanks for all the input everybody, I really appreciate it. I look forward to learning from all of you in the future. This may have been the first but it definitely won't be the last!!!!!!!
