Posts: 172 | Going to the Northwest Angle, is it possible to hire him? How do you contact him? Read his book a couple of times, would like to fish with him once.

Posts: 999 | No he does not. I do agree with you though that would be something to say you've fished with Dick Pearson, one of the biggest legends of our sport.

Posts: 95 | There are a lot of good guides on lake of the woods my personal favorite is Dan Gibbons. An important question to ask before hiring one of them would be where they fish from in the boat. Just my opinion but I would not pay a guide $500 to fish behind him.

Posts: 218 | Fished with several guides on LOTW where they were in the front and casting. Either my wife or I were the 3rd caster. We put nine 50" fish in the boat, and all but one was caught by the 3rd caster. In addition, the 2nd and 3rd caster also caught many other fish. Don't worry about the guide casting in the front of the boat. Instead cast to the spots he doesn't, and cast very very close to shore.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | He's thinking every guide has a cable trolling motor I don't think the OP is looking for a guide on LOTW, I think he's looking to fish with Dick out of nostalgia and because of the reverence and what he inspired with his book.

Posts: 153 | Running a boat from the back on LOTW can be tough. I tried doing it in 1988 and quickly moved up front. Not saying it can't be done, especially with people fishing with long rods. You can make longer casts today so its possible to stay away from the shoreline hazards. I have caught more big fish than I can count fishing in the back. With some very good anglers being in front. Danny Gibbons is the most underrated muskie fisherman of our time, and the most humble. I learned a bit from during my guiding days and always love to stop and chat.

Posts: 172 | nwild - 6/3/2014 7:34 AM If you bribe Dick Pearson with Ice Cream there is a pretty good chance you could get him to do it. ;) A cone, a dish, a gallon, a year's worth.......how much will it take? Any flavor that he can't resist...........I need some help here. I know his wife used to feed him sandwiches while he casted so he could keep fishin..........would I have to keep a cone up to his mouth at all times to keep him happy while he's casting?? Will he get mad if I spill some ice cream in his boat. So many things to think of when muskie fishing............. Edited by oly67 6/3/2014 10:34 AM

Posts: 63 | The only way anyone would get him to go out, would be if it was on his terms, and it would not be a guided trip. You would be fishing with a friend. I know several people in similar situations, and they really have no interest after they retire to guide ever again. They want to enjoy their retirement. So unless you are a close friend, or friend of a friend, it's doubtful you would ever get the chance. I was fortunate to fish with one such person who I shall not name. He was not a big name in the muskie world of the Midwest. But where I live, he was/ is still the person to look up to. I didn't talk, I listened, and answered questions he posed. It was on his terms. I will always look back on it as a memorable event for me, even though it was a short trip.

Posts: 172 | I think, at least I hope, that I have gained some valuable knowledge from him already by reading his book and many magazine articles, and been to a seminar of his. Looks like I need to be satisfied with that, that's okay. Might stay at Frank's or maybe Bill Sandy's. I sure there is alot to be learned by hiring one of them also. Thanks for the replies.

Posts: 63 | Bill Sandy is on my bucket list to meet some day, and if possible fish with. Just really like the guy's demeanor, and his attitude. Very much a person I would love to talk muskies with! He reminds me of an uncle of mine.

Posts: 999 | Bill Sandy, is the legend of all legends on LOTW, as good as it gets. The guy is simply amazing. I've stayed with them going on 11 years straight this year. Fished with him several times, 1 which was the most incredible day on the water. One i 'll never forget . Hire Bill while you still can. The legends are almost done

Posts: 220 | Rumor has it if you stay at Baystore Camp there has been reported sightings of this legend holding a cup of coffee on the dock on some dark and foggy mornings!! I was lucky enough became friend with him some 14 years ago and learned soo much like if something on his boat breaks he can't fix it!! LOL
