I'm looking to add a trolling rod to my collection two questions

1) do you need a trolling specific rod or could I use one of my current casting rods?

2) what would you recommend for an inexpensive trolling rod, both brand/size/action. I mostly cast as I don't get to fish a lot in the early months/fall so i'm looking for something that won't break the bank.

1) no but why put the stress on your casting rods if you don't have to
2) you can get a pair of 8'-6" H shimano TDrs for around $60

Shimano TDRs + Okuma Madgas (I like the 20s primarily, but for big lipped cranks and boards, try the 30s) and you're set.
