Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | A friend and I went out yesterday morning and the muskies were going crazy. We had ten follows between us, and two strikes. (Just grabbed the flashabou on my cowgirl.) I was able to hold two of them boatside on the figure eight, for as long as twenty or thirty seconds, but could not get either one to strike. Fast, slow, deep, shallow... they'd look, even move closer to the lure, but they would not take it.
Granted, we were past peak feeding hours, but there has to be something else we can do to make them commit. Suggestions?

P.S. What really surprised me is that though we're only two weeks after ice-out, they were already chasing the big lures. I didn't pack any pounders, but given the way they were chasing the double tens, I've no doubt they'd have gone after the big plastic too. |

i think i would have either switched to a glider or downsized my bucktails and burned them in. not saying this is the answer, JMO. |

Location: Alsip, IL | When im getting follows on bucktails but not getting the strikes, I'll usually start throwing a couple really fast cranks. Steady retrieve and every 3 or 4 seconds crank real fast twice then back to normal. There are two upper peninsula bodies in particular I fish that this technique has turned 10 follow days into 4 or 6 fish days. |

If you have a chance, see if you can find a little tiny spinner that you could attach to the end of the bucktail or a twister tail to one of the back trebles... It might be that all you need is some little teaser back there that catches their eye...
Could even try bulging the tails as well... something just a little bit different than what they are used to seeing...

all you had mentioned is that you were throwing double tens, not that you had tried any other baits or sizes. if you were convinced that size was the determining factor i would try ripping a 10'' jake and see if the erratic action triggers them. if you bring a fish around a few times in the 8 and he hasnt committed try a hesitation in the 8. not enough to stop the blades but to make a noticeable speed difference. that can trigger a fish a lot of times. |
