Posts: 95 | Looking to upgrade my older Lowrance with an HDS model. Can I use any of my older Navionics Hot Maps Premium SD chips in the new HDS models? Thanks for any help! - Kevin

Posts: 183 | Yes you can, but just an FYI if you own a earlier version of Navionics you can get Navionics Updates card for 99.00 which will give much newer data and SonarCharts http://www.navionics.com/en/navionicsupdates-1 Top one is with the HD SonarCharts bottom without SonarCharts Edited by kirth 5/19/2014 6:02 PM

Posts: 95 | Thanks so much for the help and screen shots. Bought the HDS yesterday. Old chips worked as you said and will be fine most places I fish. I will upgrade Navionics or consider the Insight Pro v14 specifically for Lake of the Woods. Anybody have experience with either of those options for LOTW?? Edited by esox99 5/21/2014 6:11 AM

Posts: 173 | I upgraded to the Lake Insight Pro map chips on my HDS because it had places I knew existed on lake of the woods that navionics has never shown. After I bought them, I knew it was the right choice when my trails around those areas matched up. I will say that my navionics seemed better on some of the metro minnesota lakes though.

Posts: 95 | Tim, this is a lot to ask, but is there any chance you could either post a screen capture or email me a screen capture of any place on LOTW in Sabaskong Bay between Morson and Nestor Falls. Some island/reef complex near Red Wing Lodge or Young's Wilderness Camp would be awesome. I'd like to compare to my Navionixs chart before deciding to buy the Insight Pro v14. Thanks so much!!! Posts: 116 | You can play with retailer displays to get a feel for the different chips as well. It's interesting to have 2 different chips side by side displaying a body of water that you are familiar with.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | With regards to the maps shown of Pewaukee above, was that lake mapped on separate occasions to get those particular contours, or was additional contour data extrapolated from the first map to create the HD version. Over the course of the next couple of years as I transition from LCX/first gen HD units, I just want to be sure that my unit update/upgrades, include mapping that is as precise and accurate as the lakemaster maps that I am used to running, particularily for some of the large flowages in WI and lakes in MN that I use them on. I have a 4 year old navionics chip in my unit right now, alongside a lakemaster, and the lakemaster is dead on for the flowages I fish here, while the nav is nowhere near. I suppose I'll just have to look up the lakes and the dates they were mapped for that particular chip to see how they rate for my waters. While mapping isn't the deciding factor, it will play a role in which units I ultimately decide on. Thanks for sharing this info. Edited by Reef Hawg 5/24/2014 9:18 AM

Kevin The Navionics website has a map preview page under the Web App tab, be sure to click on the Sonar Icon for Sonar Charts view. Just an FYI there is no limit on the Nav + as to areas you can load on it, anywhere in North America one chip for US and Canada

Location: Eastern Ontario | I find on areas I'm familiar with in Ontario the sonar charts ( WEB APP ) come from someone's dreaming and bear no resemblance to reality. Missing many deepwater humps and some hazzards Edited by horsehunter 5/29/2014 10:52 AM
