Posts: 52 | I have 2 HDS 8 Gen 2 locators. They are linked and I have a 4000 puck. All came rigged on the boat. The front unit will not display GPS. So my question is - will the 4000 puck feed both units being linked or do I need to add another 4000 puck. Try not to bash me too bad I'm not real good with this type of stuff. Thanks for any info-Bones.

Posts: 173 | Something isn't working right because with the HDS units you don't need a puck at all. I have 2 HDS 7 gen 1s and both do their own GPS without any puck.

Posts: 52 | Thanks for the reply. I didn't think I needed any add ons for it to work. I'll get back into tonight and see what I can do. Probably operator error.

Posts: 437 | How are they linked? Ethernet? NMEA? There are LOTS of settings in these units, start by browsing around in the settings and determine what the values are set in the "source" for the chart. Perhaps this is set a certain way and that is causing the problem. I agree, since these have internal GPS modules it should lock in for you on its own and not need the external puck (though the puck is more accurate than the internal). Its possible that if the units are linked together that one unit is sharing the "source" of the other and without that unit on you will get nothing. I believe you will find what you are looking for in settings under "installation" or "Advanced options".

Posts: 437 | Tuffybones, I thought I would pose you another question, when you say it isnt displaying the GPS, what exactly do you mean? Are you not getting a GPS fix? If you are not real familiar with these models perhaps you do not have the "chart" displayed? Hit the "pages" button, then make sure you use the arrow pad to find "chart". You should lock in a GPS fix within a minute with those units if the internal GPS is functioning right. Thought I would throw that out there before you start digging through settings if its as simple as that.

Posts: 52 | Thanks for the replies fellas. I got everything going last night. A couple of minutes going through some settings and bingo. Thanks again--Bones
