Is this reel's line guide supposed to move back and forth when casting? When retrieving it does, but for some reason mine isn't during the cast. I find this rare with expensive reels. Wondering if it's defective.

It does not. Its a non-engaging level wind. The Tranx does the same thing. I have 2 and (EJ's and tranx) and I have never found it to be an issue...

mine seems to wind up a lot more line on one side than the other, often enough to make me wonder what's going on...

it's disengaging. Since the curado has a narrower spool so they can do that. Revo's are quite wide so you see the levelwind move on the cast

If more line is going on one side, a few factors could contribute:

1. Line size. Thicker line (80lb +) will tend to have an exaggerated affect in these situations. A narrow spool with a heavy line may stack on one side a tad more obviously than compared to 65lb or less.

2. Take note of your reel after the end of a long cast. Is the line still stacked to one side? If so, this may be an issue of how the reel was spooled. If tape was used, this can sometimes cause a bulge and again is amplified with large diameter line.

3. How do you retrieve a lure? Do you point the rod tip at the lure, or is the rod bent to one side? If the rod is loaded to the side during retrieval, this can cause the line to stack.

Hope this helps!
