Do you think musky tournaments should allow trolling as a fishing method if it is a legal method of fishing on the tournament waters? How about the use of live bait?

Would you not a fish a tournament if it allowed a method that you don't use yourself?

I think it should be up to the tournament creators.. Allowing live bait and/or trolling would certainly be reason for some to not participate. A lot of musky guys are anti-live bait, and artificial only.. I think the biggest problem with trolling, besides some people being against it, would be that allowing it would create far too much boat traffic for the average lake. Personally, I think it'd be fun to do something different- provided it was on the right body of water. But that's just my 2 cents.

Live bait should be illegal in muskie fishing.. period. That should go over like a lead balloon.

Like the second poster said it is up to the people putting the tourney on,however I also think it would be very important for the powers that be listen to what the people who competing have to say and consider tweaking things over time to improve their overall product. I personally hate trolling and don't use live bait but I regularly fish in the imtt and they allow trolling. We have been beaten more than once by guys trolling so maybe I need to remove my cranium from my rectum and give it a try!!!!!!!!!!!

Trolling allows older fisherman to spend the day on the water. Not everyone is in shape to cast lures all day. Also allows a less skilled fisherman (newbies, girlfriends, children, others) to fish.

Never allow live bait.

Some tournaments allow trolling, but only allow the use of 1 line per person. So if you are in an area that allows 2 or 3 rods per person, they can still only use 1 like the casters are doing. That is fair.

PMTT allows trolling if the waters allow it but only two lines per team. Ironman allows trolling, casting and live bait. Some tourneys are mostly for cash, others to benefit fisheries, organizations like MI or charities. I fish all sorts and generally have a nice time with nice folks doing it. The rules are never secret. Just find an event with rules you like and fish that. If you don't like the rules or where the money goes...do something else that weekend.

Thanks for your input guys. I know that different tournaments allow different things. I was just looking for other people's views. I like tournament fishing and fish some that only allow casting and some that allow everything. I don't feel that I'm at a disadvantage do to one method being allowed or disallowed.

Junkman your responses are always so laid back I would like to spend a day on the water with you sometime.

In a lot of cases tourneys have a large number o boats for the body of water being fished. In that case trolling would make an already congested system even worse. As for live bait. If it's legal on the system I would like the option. Bu like others said I feel like it should be up to the organizer.
