Have anyone had luck with shortening the lip or bending it, to get them to run higher in the water ?

Tight lines.

if you have one with a broken lip ,, cut the lip flush with belly of the lure ,, install heavier hooks ,, and you end up with a shallow running pull/jerk bait -----

Sounds like a solution, if one of them break some day. But atm i just wanted them to run higher in the water, but still keep the same action, would be awesome if they could run at something like 3 feet down.

Are you trolling them or casting?

Both, used the 10" jake, and just got a 13" grandma, the grandma is probably going to be mainly trolling, but would still like them both to run more shallow, it's not the biggest problem when casting, just have to give the Jake some long pauses to rise. That's why i was thinking if anybody had luck shortening the lip.

Had great luck shortening the lip on some revolution shads, but the jointed action on the "swimbait" is harder do mess up, then on the straight cranks, so that's why i wanted to hear people experiences, would love to mess around with it, if i lived in the states, so i had easier axes to some spare lips.

When trolling or casting if I want a bait to run shallower I just keep my rod tip up.

Or run them off a planner board to get them back from the boat.

Rather than risk your baits I'd encourage you to check out the Custom X KC Special. That lure was designed to do exactly what you seem to be saying you want to modifty the Jakes to do. It has a smaller lip so it will run shallower but still have the big profile. Trolls to about 8'.

I have cut off a third to a half to use as a jerk or twitch bait but don't know about trolling. Grandma used to make a jerk bait lip and a M9 lip which was straight rather then bent. Don't think they are still available but can be found used.

The Jake will handle some modification and still run well, a bend similar to the 13" Grandma will give less depth both casting and trolling without sacrificing action. Don't alter the Grandma's though, they're not tolerant of changes to the lip because they're less buoyant - you'll end up with a cool twitch bait but that's all it will be. As noted above though if you're trolling and want them shallower it's better to shorten the line, put the rod tip up or if you're in really clear water put it on a board with short line.

So i got to trim a bit of the lip of the Jake, and when i retrieve it in a regular speed, it does exactly what i want, including when twitching.
The actions dies a bit if i retrieve it fast, but that's not en issue for me, as i like to straight retrieve them, with some twitch and sharp pulls now and then.

Thanks again for all the inputs :D
