Posts: 111 | Love Sluggos for bass and pike. Bought the big ones for musky. But the leaders kill the action. Have used 80lb floro/90lb 7strand steel/ 75lb TI. All 12 inch. with no luck. Any suggestion's ? Thanks WindKnot

Posts: 59 | For the guys that use Sluggos, how do you rig the hook? I have tried many ways and have not been able to hook a fish on one. After some frustration with a few lost fish, I gave up on them. Someone enlighten me if you could please.

Posts: 111 | Thanks I will go to a lighter 7 strand see how that works.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Bury the hook with JUST the point barely exposed through the Sluggo. The key is giving the fish a 3 to 4 second count stripping off line before tightening up and smoking 'em with the world's most impressive hookset. I lost lots until I read the instructions and gave the fish time to eat the thing.

Posts: 59 | Thanks Steve, I think I may have the hook right, but have never done the 'let em have line' deal. It makes sense that it will work, I will have to work on my patience.

Posts: 455 | Check the double Sluggo rig. Rig a second sluggo on a shorter leader. Run line through the swivel on the shorter leader then tie to the longer leader on the second rig. Looks awesome in the water and gets fish to bite!

Posts: 59 | Muskyrat, This sounds interesting to me, is there any way you could post or pm me a pic of this? I think I know what you are saying but some photo evidence would probably help me understand all the way(I'm kinda slow). Thanks!

Posts: 98 Location: Franklin, WI | I used "Tyger" wire leaders when fishing Sluggos for monster pike in Alaska. Here are some rigging options also. This video explains how to tie the "2 hook" Sluggo rig: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTJmAlXzBeQ Mike Attachments ---------------- Sluggo_Rigging.png (179KB - 789 downloads)

Posts: 2269 Location: SE, WI. | You can just use a three way swivel to work dual sluggo's. One lead about 3.5ft. And one shorter lead about 12 to 15 inches. I usually Texas rig my sluggo's. Easier to work through weeds. We use the three way swivel method when fishing perch, and 1 -2 inch worm jigs. Love it when we get dbl headers

Posts: 59 | Jim, so do you use the hook that comes with it or do you use a different one. Do you let them have time to eat it like the others have said. Now that you talk the three way and "dunking panfish" over the side of the boat I know what you guys mean with a double rig. Thanks for the info, this is great stuff. I like this lure and have had success getting bites, but no suecess with hookups, so if I can convert that, could be fun.

Posts: 2269 Location: SE, WI. | Ryan; The 8 or 9" sluggo, I use the hook that comes with it, although NOT real thrilled with the beefy ness of that hook. I mostly throw the 6 inch sluggo, OR a better option is the Jerk Worm by Culprit. The jerk worm has a flat tail, which seems to give it some glide. The hook I use for the 6" is a large Plastic worm hook, or a Tru-turn. I also use the tru-turn in my swimmerhead jigs. The 5/0 Brute hook, or 6/0, are great options, and NOT toooooo beefy, BUT plenty strong. I have some extra 5/0 Brute hooks if you need. I also like to add the right amount of weight to my sluggo's. If I want a slightly heavier drop, I cut small 1 to 2 inch thicker Coat hanger, and push into MR. Sluggo. Fishing the Bass circuits for a # of years, you learn many tricks:) I like to Pour my own sluggo. You can get the colors you like. Do what Mr Worrall says with the hook set...He knows his Stuff!!! Posts: 59 | Jim and Steve, Thanks for the info, can't wait to give it a try again, I kinda got frustrated with them and put them in the corner for many years. Gonna have to give it another go. Sorry to WINDKNOT for hi-jacking your thread.

Posts: 111 | 115hammer glad you cut in. Lot of good info. I was about to write them off as a great bass lure that don't crossover to musky fishing. Like the chatterbaits
