Posts: 23 | I fish 50% of my time for muskies with the other 50% being bass/walleye/etc.. I’ve run cable steer front trolling motors for 30 years and like the instant response and trouble free operation. Don’t even have to look at the trolling motor to know which direction I’m pointed by the position of my foot. That said, some compelling features on the new motors……particularly Spot Lock and I am contemplating a switch. For those of you who have done it - I’m just wondering your likes/dislikes after the switch. Thanks much.

Posts: 304 Location: Not where I want to be! | It's not a difficult change at all. In a couple days you will wonder why you waited so long to go to an auto pilot. Steering response is not as slow as some think. Spot lock while fighting and unhooking a fish is priceless. By the way, standing on two feet is great.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | I would agree, we didn't notice any significant difference at all in response time. And that whole "got some Captain in you?" thing is way overrated. Especially in big wind it's nice to have both feet on deck.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i use a quick-mount plate and use both cable and auto and switch them out depending on what i'm doing and then always have a spare if something goes wrong on a trip (and it has). best of both worlds and it takes me 15 minutes to switch them out …

Posts: 256 Location: plant earth | It's awesome just a learning curve. Just make sure you do the terrova because the pd versions once it's ipilot linked doesn't offer a foot pedal.

Posts: 286 Location: Eagan, MN | Jonnysled, I'm actually thinking about going from the electric steer back to cable so I can use the new 360 bow technology. Plus, I do a lot of night fishing and find the foot pedals of the electric steer to be a pain, particularly with heavy boots in the fall. Having both options like you describe is very appealing to me. My question is: What do you do with the different plug-ins on the electric steer when switching out to the cable drive TM and vice versa? How do you make the switch without running two sets of wires thru the boat? Just curious how you have configured all the wiring to ease the transition between the two different kinds of TMs. Can you elaborate a little more on this? BrianF.

Posts: 165 Location: tHe LaKe Of PrIoR, mN | I have used both a lot now and I wouldn't go back!!! I use the I pilot remote most of the time fishing from the back, but sometimes in the front its nice with the foot pedal I really like the terrovas pedal because you can either rock the foot pedal like the cable driven or like I do I use the arrows with big winter boots its no big deal at all I like the options of the terrova and also the side to side speed of the terrova is way faster than a powerdrive

BrianF. both of my motors have the same power plug to the boat so no changing there at all. only nuisance is the transducer connection to the back of my hummingbird is "coupled" so i have to use the same transducer and switch it from one to another. and you can say all you want but there are times that a cable is simply the best option … can't be argued.
