Posts: 117 Location: Northern Illinois | Hi everyone. My boat needs a new cranking battery and I am looking towards a interstate or a optimal or the odyssey batteries. Just want the best battery money can buy. My fishfinders run off the starting battery and just drained the old one to the point it couldn't turn the motor over. All opinions help... Thanks Cranker

Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | Put a 27 series versus a 24 series in if you can and make sure you get one that is rated for cranking so you have a reserve. I am not going to get into the Brand thing but IMO there are lots of very good starting batteries out there that will not break the bank.

Posts: 246 | You get what you pay for.Remember guys there are really only 4 or 5 battery manufacturers who sell to private label to everyone else.Just like your air conditioners.Good Luck. # 1 Lifeline - Used exclusivly by US Military and NASA. # 2 Odyessy- Right behind Lifeline and just ahead of Trojan. # 3 Trojan- Invented the Golf cart battery

Posts: 270 Location: SE WISCONSIN | I just had my dealer order a interstate 31 xhd seems like a good battery with a lot of reserve for the fish finder's. Edited by R code 4/26/2014 10:46 PM

Posts: 791 Location: WI | I have an Optima blue top dc31. That's the big 31 series. It is a cranking deep cycle. Have had it for 4 years an it is awesome. I bought it because after a long day with 3 graphs and maybe some radio I would have to worry about if the boat would start. I can fish for an entire weekend while camping with no power and have no issues. Not cheap but best 325 bucks I have ever spent.

Posts: 5874 | I'd suggest a dual purpose battery. Cranking plus deep cycle. Lots of good batteries out there. If you live near Milwaukee, go see the guys at Remy Battery on 43rd and Lincoln. Dekka is an excellent battery. Interstate and Northern are also decent, and both offer dual purpose. I also see Fleet Farm is now offering AGM batteries at a competitive price.

| If you want the best, go with the Optima.. biggest that will fit your space. That said, you can probably pay half the price on a diff battery that will work just fine for a boat.. The optima will hold a charge longer and will last longer but its up to you if its worth the money. | |||

Posts: 3 Location: Cary, IL - Upstate, NY | Sears Platinum PM1. At 1150 CCA, and 205RC.....nothing in the market compares. It's a beast of a battery (75lbs) and expensive, but the power and warranty are worth it. I'm on my 3rd year on mine and it's been great. I can run a 997, 998, and the livewells on recirc non stop for 4-6 hours without turning on the big motor and still have 11.8-12v+ according to my sonar display. For reference the Optima 31 has 900 CA, 155 RC, a two year warranty, and it costs about $10 more. Edited by Rick James 4/28/2014 10:43 PM
