I posted this before, but for some reason it's disappeared.

I bought a 10" Believer and it looked as if the 2 halves weren't put together properly, they were offset a bit leaving a slight ridge on top and bottom facing opposite directions.

I'm told from Drifter this is how it's been done for 20 years. The online retailer sent me a new one which is better, but still not perfect. I can't think of any valid reason to make something in 2 halves only to set them together with a slight offset. Not a single other reputable lure I own is like this.

Am I just getting the "thanks, but go away" response here? I'm sure some out here have a few Believers in their box.. are they like this?

i assume so they can install the rattles and the hardware. it is hollow plastic. if it does not sink i wouldn't worry about it. its a cheap plastic crank, wouldn't expect much in the fit and finish.

i've faced exactly the same problem.but only 1 out of maybe the 100 that i've buy,so it's not something that we can call common.but i have been disappointed because even after a pics they have never offer me another one.

I've had two of the jointed 10" type that leaked. I no longer buy them.

I think you're getting the "Thanks, but go away" response. I bought a new little squirrely ernie from them last january that had the tape already peeling off the bait. Took me three months to get a replacement lure from them which wasn't much better than the one I had returned. I have taken my business elsewhere. Good baits, but I try to go with something handmade or a company that has good customer service before choosing Drifter.

I will disagree with the other posts so far. I have had great luck with drifter products yeah pounding rocks all day will sink a hollow crank bait on occasion however the only malfunction I have had that was not caused by abuse was a lip fell off of a 14" jake. I emailed drifter and had a new one the next week shipped for free.

Both of my daughters caught their first ever Muskies on Jakes.

The first time I e-mailed the company a photo of the catch, thinking they might post it on their website. Totally unsolicited, a big box came in the mail with a couple of lures and a T-shirt, my daughter got a real kick out of the package.

When my second daughter caught her first Muskie I again e-mailed in a photo. This time I reminded them of what they did for daughter number one. I told them I wasn't looking for another freebie but wanted her to get a package like her big sister got, just send me the bill. Well, they did send another package but wouldn't accept a dime, free of charge again.

Not trying to create a run on freebie request for them but I'm a big fan of Musky Mania Tackle and Drifter. Besides that, probably 1/3 of the Muskies to ever visit my boat have come from their lures.

The quality is not what it was 20 years ago but they catch fish . I don't buy on line only where I can get a good look at the bait and even then I seal any voids around joints , hook hangers and line ties with epoxy. Even 20 years ago you would get the odd leaker these I filled with expanding foam.

I think some are just offset a bit. Caught my first really big fish on a 10" jtd Believer so it doesn't bother me. Also had a lure (not a Believer) break and they replaced it quickly. Drifter is a good company in my opinion.

Thier customer service use to be really excellent. I had two occasions where they did take care of me. The first one was on a Drifter Super Stalker where the plastic split near the tail. Took a few weeks, but I was happy to receive a brand new bait after returning the one that broke. They also sent me a freebie to boot which was nice even though it leaked.

We also had an instance where we had purchased a Little Ernie that never quite swam right and took on water. They were happy to replace that one as well. However, both those occurens took place over five years ago. So in my experience, their customer service has gone downhill in the recent years. I also sent them a detailed letter regarding my experience in the first post but never received a response which is a shame because they do make some good products.

So, it's not just me. I can understand getting a faulty product occasionally, but do not like being shoo'd away by customer support. Too bad for Drifter because I spend way more on my lure collection than I should.

I quit using jointed believers after the 2nd one came apart on a fish, ripped the back half right off

I am surprised by these posts I have put hundreds of hours on my jakes and believers ( mostly jointed) and have caught dozens of fish and rocks to 6mph and I have only had one fail where other lures would have handled the abuse I threw at them. The one incident I spoke of was 2 years ago and resolved very quickly.

I use alot of Drifter tackle products and have not had any issues.Their customer service has always been good to me,especially with getting my orders out quickly of colors that I couldn't find at any other retailers.Drifter tackle is a good company in my opinion also, and I think they have a lot of great products.

I object to being charged extra for no rattles just as I object to paying extra for no salt, no sugar, no fat. If I have a problem with a lure purchase Canadian postal rates dictate that I fix it myself or chuck it and consider it a learning experience.

I too was a former disgruntled user of Drifter products, however the Drifter Customer Rep Zack Stechschulte went over and above the call of duty and righted a previous wrong. He only asked that if I didn't want the products that were sent to me that I consider donating them. This gesture and an apology for past injustices turned me from a skeptic to a future customer for drifter products. I hope he is appreciated and commended by his company for his handling of this problem.
