My Son's levelwind stops at at each side while reeling. If I give it a push it will go across to the other side and stay there. I can always get it started back, but it always hangs up on each end. Is this a pawl issue, worm gear issue or both? Thanks.

Posts: 1716 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Did you try tightening the pawl cover? Abu suggests changing the pawl and worm gear at the same time. It sounds to me like the pawl is worn out from lack of lubrication.

I tore it all apart last night and cleaned everything. When I put it together, all worked fine. I do not have any oil or grease (it's on order), so I will do it all again and lube it up. The pawl may be a little worn, I'll have to compare it with my C3. Thanks

I would sell it while it works and get a C3, C4, or record, these are the real deal, made in Sweden. That BCX is a chinese version, and is a POS. I realize you already own it.. but just giving my 2 cents.

My Son pretty much knows this. He also has a Tranx, Saltis and a couple other decent reels, but he figured we may as well get it working correctly as long a he has it. Thanks

Update: The same issue started up again. I bought a new Pawl and worm gear and the issue continued. From what I see, the pawl has room to drop (with the line guide cap tight) and basically fall out of the worm gear groves. I put a little piece of carbon fiber with some grease inside the cap to eliminate any up and down movement of the pawl. It works fine now. Could this be caused by the cap wearing out on the inside and creating a gap for the pawl to fall out of the worm gear? Thanks again

Posts: 29 | Probably there should be a small washer or two that should be there. Does the pawl drop lower than the bottom edge of the line guide? If so, you'll need a washer or two.
