Posts: 164 | Who uses power handles and on which reels and setups? I just picked up a new NACL HS and trying to decide on which handle to setup.

Posts: 162 Location: Chicago, IL | Power handle on the NACL results in the reel engaging during the cast... Not a pretty sound. I now run mine with the original double pad handle and it pulls in tens easy still.

Posts: 345 Location: Poynette WI. | I bought a curado 300 ej for my brother this year with the power handle on it, he also said that he has to have the handle in a certain position or it will engage during the cast also. I have never had that problem with my winch or curado's and that was the first time i actually heard of that happening. I believe he makes sure his handle is hanging down and it doesnt happen. Does anyone else have this problem and is there something that he can do to prevent this?

Posts: 538 Location: northern indiana | I believe the OP asked about the Nacl and peoples setups. Can we please try to stay on topic here. I understand that everyone has their opinions onother reels. II've used the power handle on mine without any issues but I just prefer the stock handle that came with it. To me it's a more comfortable feel.

Posts: 791 Location: WI | To me the double paddle handle is big enough. Have also had power handle engage during cast on ABUs. Not a sound you want to here.

Posts: 311 Location: Lake St.Clair | Power handle on my NaCl and never had a problem with the reel engaging. I just made sure it was buckled down tight. I prefer it over the paddle for moving baits faster in my opinion.

Posts: 538 Location: northern indiana | Just to make it clear, the original stock handle is not a paddle handle.

Posts: 2325 Location: Chisholm, MN | Does the NACL actually come with a real power handle? The paddle handles that come with the Revo Toros are not any longer than the regular handle...so they are not actually power handles

The paddle handles that come with the Revo Toros are not any longer than the regular handle...so they are not actually power handles I'd say the NACL comes with an actual power handle. On the long setting, it's longer than the double paddle handle, and comes with a big, round grip. I bought my first NACL this winter and haven't used it, but the power handle on the long setting looks like it would make double 10's pretty easy, provided the angler pays attention when they cast so as to not engage the reel mid cast.

Location: Western PA | I really prefer a power handle over a double when I'm fishing any kind of bucktail, and also when I have gloves on in late fall/winter/ and spring here in PA. I use a Saltist 20H-C for the big blades and then rubber and large gliders in the fall, and the toro nacl 60 hs with the power handle for my 9's and down. Just like the way that ball feels on the Nacl power handle. Ill use the 5 to 1 nacl for big blades also, works great when warp speed isn't an issue or night rolling.

Posts: 163 Location: NoDak | even on the shorter of the two settings it is longer on NacL, i used my double handle on 5.4 and 8.5 h mojo, and pulled tens easy, bought a 6.4 for that rod and a 8.5 xh mojo for the 5.4. i am gunna force myself to use the larger handle on both 5.4 long setting, 6.4 short, gunna see if it is more comfortable for me, its all preferance.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | On the Toro NiCI the Kick Lever spring is Heavy Duty to handle the power handle so if U install that Power handle from the NaCI on a olderToro, U MUST UPGRADE to that spring or the reel will engage on the cast forsure !!!!!!!!!! It is part # 26 Kick Lever Spring

Posts: 337 Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | My Curado 300e came with a power handle and the Calcutta D already has an oversized handle. I did add power handles to my Record 60 and Calcutta B and found that they do make cranking a bit easier, both for bulging and for pulling pounders, which I appreciate more with each passing year. QUOTE] This seems odd to me. I have had an EJ since they came out in fall of 2010 and have never had this happpen. I hear about it happening on Tranx's and other reels too and I have a 2 Tranx and have never had it happen. I really think it has more to do with guys(or gal's) forcing a cast out there rather than letting a rod load up and do its thing more than anything else. I also use LJV's wich for sure will engage as they are not designed for casting and have launched more then one cast with the handle up do to inatnetion on my behalf and have had no issues.

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | The standard double handle on the nacl is good enough for me. Before I bought the nacl I had a shimano cardiff, great reel for price, however I decided to put a large power handle on it and burn 10s and 12s and the insides just couldn't handle it. Make sure the reel can support the power handle.
