Just ordered a new HDS 8 with structure scan for my 08 Ranger 619. A few questions...can I continue to run the glassed in ducer from my previous HDS? Where/how is the best place to install the lss ducer? Can this interfere with the glassed in ducer? Any general tips/tricks on install would be great, pics even better. Thanks!

Mine is below my main engine, 2013 620, below the jackplate. Know some guys mounted to jackplate but you will get interference from kicker while down. Ur rig have a kicker? Consider that into where you mount as well. Ur glassed in is fine, I think instructions say to mount LSS1 as close (within a foot) to regular ducer as possible so both LSS images & sounding are consistent. I actually temp. mounted mine with d le side adhesive in a few spots and tried it in the water. On the road but will try to upload pics later.

Where is the glassed in transducer located relative to the "step" under the transom on Rangers? Worried about lss being directly under the 2d ducer and messing up the cone. Also suggestions on where/how to mount the box would be great. Thanks for the reply

The glassed-in is usually below & in front of the step on the 620's I've seen and on mine. I have seen some mount the LSS1 flush mount to the underside of the step. Now depends on how the sides of the step lay out if they are angled out or straight down, don't remember what the 08 looks like but it's important to note how the hull runs as you may get hull interference when shooting to the sides. Know the LSS1 doesn't shoot out 0degrees horizontally. There is a slight angle downward at which the singal shoots out. Your best bet is to use a transom mount. Some guys like bass boat guys have used a wedge mount to mount & also a breakaway mount for those who fish heavy cover/timber, that way you won't crush/break the LSS1 when contacting structure. Now me, I don't fish a ton of standing timber much so I don't worry about that. I will still try to get a pic later this evening.

Here are pics of a few options that I am using to mount mine on a 620 once it warms up. The LSS1(2) needs to be slightly lower than the 83/200 transducer and within 12" as Esox 1850 said.

Mine is offset right a little. Gave up some side distance shooting port side but had less interference from the kicker while it was down. One otherthing, I've seen the question of how well can you side scan at high speeds. I think I've heard of one person (Doc Sampson) getting images at like 25mph. Has to be very ideal situation with your mount and other factors. I typically lose good side sounding at around 7 mph, kicker or main engine running. Awesome addition to your tools though. Green Bay is my home water and its amazing what you learn/see that you previously thought was x and its really y. Found sunken ice houses, 2 sunken boats, couple anchors, telephone pole, tires, etc. Couldnt tell what that stuff with old sonar in a million years.

Guys,

Thanks for the ideas and photos. I've never installed any of my own electronics so this was a big deal for me, if not an anxiety ridden one. By the way it was an LSS-2, not a 1 so was quite a bit longer ducer than I expected. Here's what I ended up doing:
