I will be purchasing a new terrova soon and wanted to get some opinions if the Ipilot link is worth the extra over the regular Ipilot? Do people that have the ipilot link use the follow the contour feature? Thanks in advance!

I use it, and love it. pull up to a spot, select the contour or contour offset you want to follow, set the cruise control to about 0.5 mph, and then just fish it without worrying about controlling the boat. When you get to the end of the area you want to fish, just hit cancel pull the trolling motor, or head back through the same area going the other way. Obviously if you're wanting to slow down and really pick a spot apart, that method isn't so great (spot lock can come in handy here), but when you're just covering water, it's awesome.

The only thing I really wish it could do was follow a contour on a drift, but it really can't do that. It's possible to go down-wind if you're going faster than the wind, but rarely is that the case. As it is, it's really only useful when heading up wind.

I love my iPilot and looked into the link, but decided against it since it only works with Lakemaster maps. For the areas I fish, they don't include a whole lot of maps, rending the device's features unusable on about 50% of the water I fish. Also, to replace my two Navionics maps, I'd have to buy six Lakemaster chips.

Be aware that the system works only with 700 series and above Humminbird units.

Suggest you check Lakemaster to see if they cover the lakes you fish and how many map cards you'll have to buy. http://www.lakemap.com/Find-a-Lake/

Is "follow the contuor" the only additional feature compared to the iPilot?

No. the sheer amount of points to anchor on and the ability to make waypoints to troll between are two off hand

If it is linked to your humminbird you can also record i tracks up to 2 miles long and follow them with the link.
