Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | I've never used a tube before but figure I should probably add one to the box. Does anyone have suggestions as to brand and model? I know red october, tackle industries, and musky innovations all make tubes but I'm not sure where to start. Thanks for the thoughts.

Posts: 994 Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | It really depends on how you are going to fish the tube. If you fish it like a swimbait or jerkbait that's one thing, T.I. tubes work well and are a good price. If you are going to fish them like a jig those Waterwolfs are tough to beat for sure. I prefer the smaller ones. They have a good diameter, move water and give a profile to the fish. Whacked allot of big eyes on them last fall. If the eyes will eat 'em ...

I'll probably be working it like a swim bait, I fish shallow lakes so never done any jigging.

Posts: 906 Location: Canada | My first time casting a tube a couple years ago and within the first dozen casts I landed a low 40" fish on a magnum gator tube from Waterwolf. I now own several more.

Posts: 295 | They're all about the same for the most part. I'd suggest going with a smaller one like the 7.5" red October tubes... They have a bigger diameter than any of the other brands similar size baits so they will still push water like a big tube but aren't as heavy and they really dart side to side better than the bigger ones. If you can go to a store and buy them, try to get ones that feel a little stiffer like they put an xtra dip of plastic on, theyre all a tiny bit different, these ones will have a better darting action to them. Don't just assume you need the bigger ones either, all of the 50" or bigger fish ive got and seen got have come on the 7.5" tubes, they are a great size. the nice thing about the ro jerk tube rig is that it doesnt have any weight added to it, so you can add it on your own to your liking. If the rig that comes with it isn't heavy enough for you, just pinch lead pacman split shots on the wire to add that little bit you're going to want as it won't take much to get it to sink faster. Pinch them up by the head to get the bait to fall vertically downward, pinch them near the back and the tube will fall more horizontally, or both. Also, shrink tube the rear hook in place so it sticks straight out the back of the tentacles so it doesn't swing around and get them all tangled up in it. This rings true for any brand you buy. Good luck, they will get chewed.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I've used the 6" Lindy Gator Tubes, TI Tubby Tube, & both the 7.5" & 10" Red October tubes for jigging & swiming. I never caught anything with the TI tube, caught several on the Lindy but it didn't hold up well because of the thin walled plastic & had one of them react & shrink up when it was mixed in with other baits. I caught a crap load on the Red October tubes, mainly the 10". I actually sold all my 7.5" because I like the glide of the 10" much better than the 7.5". In 2011 the 10" RO caught more fish than any of my other baits combined. Usually its the Bondy Bait that catches me the most.
One of these days I plan on giving the Water Wolf tubes a try to see if they hold up better than the RO tubes.

Posts: 532 Location: Ogden, UTAH 10 minutes from pineview reservoir | ro tubes have been the most productive for the tigers i chase here in Utah. Also i have 6 fish on my white 7.5" ninja tube and the bait is still doing work and looks good!! Gator tubes are good as well as the water wolf tubes, i dont have any ti tubes but i am sure they work well also.

Posts: 785 | R.O. would have my vote. Something to consider... I tried "mend it" last season and found it helped keep my tubes running longer. http://www.muskytackleonline.com/mend-it/mend-it
