Just purchased Hummingbird 859DI unit, questioning if I need to use the heavy duty ram type mount with 11" plate or will the medium duty 6.5" plate work with this unit.I am not a everyday extreme use type of angler. Heavy duty mount seems over the top weight wise.

My 998 rides on a 6.5" RAM on the dash with no issues. Also my LCX-111 rides on the same size RAM up front with no issues. Just tighten her down good and go.

You won't regret the big mount in rough water. I ran a 998 with the biggest mount I could find and never worried about it -- ever.

You should consider these as well. I have had some issues with the Ram mounts sagging in rough water, but the Ram mounts also adjust about any direction needed too.

These are Lowrance Units, but The Stabil Mount Systems are extremely solid.
