Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | First I'll apologize for creating another thread basically asking the same question thats been asked many, many times. I've spent a lot of time reading past threads about this very topic but I'm looking for very specific advice on specific setups for specific baits and presentations. I'll start with what I currently have and what I use those setups for and then add what I'm planning on purchasing looking for feedback and suggestions. For throwing platics I have a 9' XH TI split grip with a Tranx HG. For big blades and some cranks I have a 8' XH TI split grip with a revo winch. For jerks, gliders and wtd's I have a 7'6 xxh TI full grip with shimano cardiff. I also have a 7'6" MH-F musky mojo thats supposed to be for smaller 'tails and smaller surface baits paired with a abu 6500 c3. My top baits in rough estimate of use are big blades (mostly 10's but some 9's and 8's), hellhounds/phantoms, prop style surface (mostly pace makers and top raiders), shallow raiders and shallow invaders, big plastics (usually reg dawgs not pounders). Other baits that see action are spinners, smaller mepps 'tails, depth raiders, big games, jakes, suicks, wtd surface...all about the same percentage of use depending on the situation but probaly less then 15% of the time. My plan this year is to incorporate plastics into my fishing more often. I haven't spent much time at all throwing the few that I have mainly because of the confidence I have in my blades, surface, HH's and raiders/invaders... The rods I'm considering adding are the long ranger (smaller blades, tops, and the minnow baits) paired with a revo nacl 60 6.4.1. The other setup I'm considering is the SLINGBLADE with either a winch (currently on 8' TI or buy a second), tranx PG, or Lexa 400 (bigger blades, cranks, twitch, and tops). I would consider just selling the mojo and 6500 c3 or just keep for the wife, kids (when the get older), backup/spare. I'm also planning on upgrading the cardiff on the 7'6" TI to a low profile, higher speed, better line pickup (probably another nacl) I have the ability to buy the long ranger for $250 and the slingblade for $260 from a "baitshop in hayward" so that helps offset some of the cost. I really do like the TI rods especially the 9' and HG for dawgs, and the 7'6" for twitching and WTD's is great but the cardiff isn't the best reel (price was right when I was first getting setup). the 8' TI and winch work pretty good but the line pickup is pretty tough some times with it. Makes it hard to use it for anything other than bringing in 10's but pretty much impossible to burn for any length of time. I have 21' ranger reata, I'm 6'0 and pretty good size hands so the tranx isn't a problem other than additional weight. The length of the longer rods isn't much of an issue but a one piece 9' would make for additional problems, hence the slingblade vs big nasty. (TI drops to 7'6" for travel) Have a short box f-150 and the rod storage is lacking with the reata. So, there you have it...pretty long winded but I'm looking for best setups for specific baits and presentations. Thanks, adubs

Posts: 243 Location: South Central Wisconsin | Put your winch on your 9' TI for big bucktails. HG on your 8' TI for cranks or a 9' TI XXH for big plastics and big cranks. Pick up a revo HS for a 7'6" MH or H for jerks. Pick up another 8'6" or longer (9' IMO) MH to H for topwater, small bucktails, and smaller plastic and throw another HS reel on that. My $0.02

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | buying a PG for your big blades would be a good choice. you have rods to do just a bought every thing. after I had 3 set ups I started to up grade. if money is not a problem I would buy the Tranx PG and have a custom rod built . MY choice would be a Thorne Bros Predator 9'6" heavy

Posts: 393 | I would endorse the SC Slingblade with Tranx PG. I use that combo and it is perfect for big blades (and small) and cranks. I also use the SC Long Ranger and highly recommend it for mid size blades, tops and suicks. You could combine it with a Revo Toro.

If you get the PG you'll find yourself using the other rods as backups or throw backs.
