Picked up some 10" "fake Jake" lure blanks off ebay and decided to experiment with a newly acquired holographic foil for siding. Unfortunately the siding didn't show up for the party and meet expectations. By the way, the wire used in the hook hangers is somewhat small and flexible for something the size of a muskie. Might be ok for pike though.

It is carbon weave but it isn't very reflective expecially with an overcoat of epoxy. I was hoping for better delineation of the striations in the siding.

Great work as always! Anyone else notice the little groove at the top of the bait? Is this a defect or just part of the design on these fake jakes?

That little dip is known as a "bugger up." My spinner for topcoating is an electric disco ball motor mounted horizontally and used in a single lure mode. I have a wooden coupler which couples the motor shaft to the lure, and it split during the night while the epoxy was setting up. This resulted in "lure flop" and uneven epoxy distribution which you clever devils detected in my photo. If it had been a decent blank like a Molly I would have sanded it off and re-epoxied. I guess you would call this the Fake Jake Flop.

That makes sense now. Still looks awesome and bet that won't affect the action at all!
