| Hi everyone,
I was hoping to get some opinions from some of you who have been to both of these places as a possible destination for a trip early this June. Last year I went to the Chip and loved it. We landed two decent muskies, hooked into a bunch of others, and had a couple other follows. We enjoyed the Chip because of the scenery, lack of recreational boaters, and the fishing was pretty good for us overall. We also fish for smallies, usually mid-day and target the muskie early and late, so if you have info on them that would be appreciated as well. I have done a pretty good amount of research and from what I've found these two places seem pretty similar, so I was hoping to get some insight from people who have been to both (or just TF since I have been to the Chip). Any info will be greatly appreciated, and if you'd prefer to send me a private message feel free. Thanks in advance! |

Location: Smith Creek | Less people and shoreline development on the TFF. Muskie fishing is tougher but smallie fishing is easier. Size stucture of muskies is relatively close, just a few less in the TFF.
In June the smallies are absolutely on fire in the TFF, and mid-day muskie fishing is usually as good or better than evening/morning. |

Location: ON | TFF is very shallow and weedy, or at least has been when I was there 7-10 years ago. Great times out, there. Very scenic and not pressured by really anyone paddlers included. Tons of stumps to run over.
If you can find deeper water in the summer I would think you could get the skis to go.
Caught a few decent fish but nothing big. Beautiful 37" Tiger and a 40+ on a topwater one outing was the best we managed. Lots of smaller fish. Caught a few really nice incidental walleye on spinnerbaits. |

Some years there's good cabbage beds, some years its a weed wasteland, and rocks and stumps are the key. I'd say on average the Chip has much more weeds than the the TFF.
Water levels are crazy out there. Very inconsistent from one season to the next.

| Thanks for the info guys. I think we have decided to go back to the Chip this year, and then possibly try the TFF next year. |
