D-4, funny you should ask, I just got a Uniden VHF in the mail today for that very reason. We use CB's on most of the lakes I fish in Ohio. I figured I should get one for the bigger bodies of water that I fish anyway......................................RAZE

Make sure you get a good antenna for those radios. I won't be there to play relay man like I did at Cass last fall! hehehe

I have the Shakespeare XT5225 on my boat. This antenna works great. I can hear the salmon trollers on Michigan from Pewaukee Lake. That's about 25 miles.

I use a live cricket, whatever direction his antennae points, that's where I go...plus they are great weather indicators, need I mention the harmonious chirping a box of them provide?

David,

You can't beat a VHF radio, just make sure you get a good quality antenna.
The antenna will make you or brake you with your reception, also don't skimp and buy the plastic mount for your antenna, get the good one.

All I have is a little Radio Shack CB unit, but it's better than nothing, I'm gonna bring it just in case. Good radio for the boat is in line behind fishfinder, GPS, and CD player, I guess. m
