Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | I am looking to get a camera and a tripod or some sort of mounting system for my boat when I go fishing alone. I know GoPros are the best answer but they're a little out of my budget. Anyone have a decently price setup they have used?

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | I was thinking just to take pictures, but if you could record and then take photos from the video that would be a plus. Any brand recommendations?

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | In order to do this do you need a special editing program?

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | If you want to do it on the cheap use your phone if you have a phone capable of taking video? Most will capture good video and allow you to capture a frame from the video. There are plenty of mounts that you could attach to a windshield. If you want to keep the whole deal under about $5 get a couple of spring clamps and bundle tie or tape them them together (see clamp in link). One clamps on the windshield and one on the phone, the clamps can be bent to get the right angle (thank you Jerry Newman for the idea). http://www.dickblick.com/products/pony-spring-clamps/

Posts: 260 Location: Almost Heaven | I am using my trail scouting camera. I have a Covert that is small and has the tripod adapter on the bottom. You can take video or set the timer for pics. Beats having to put a camera on delay timer and hustle to get a pic.

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | Bunch of great ideas! I will probably just get a cheaper digital camera and find either a tripod mount or sunction mount. Once the fish is in the net I will turn it on and have it recording. Then go in a just cut out photos from the video!

Posts: 717 Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I'm looking at picking up one of these to hold my phone. I can take a short vid with my phone, then pull frames off it. The nice thing about this clamp is that you can mount it on just about any protrusion from your boat. Steering wheel, throttle, windshield support, etc. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=895319&Q=&is...
