Hi everyone. New here. After lurking for years and really enjoying both the website and forums, thought it was time to join. Thanks for all I've learned from you.

My question:

While in Cabela's the other day I was looking at the new 800, 900 and 1100 series Humminbirds and noticed that the prices are considerably lower than last year's models. For example, the 998c-SI retailed at $1999; its replacement, the 999c-SI sells for $1499. Humminbird doesn't have much information about these new models on its website (wonder why?) but the one thing I've noticed is that they all have an internal GPS antenna. Not sure I like that since the 700 series and lower, which have used the internal antenna for some years now, are notoriously inaccurate.

I now have a 998c-SI at the wheel, networked to a 998c-DI on the bow, and had considered adding a second unit at the wheel, dedicated to mapping, but I'm not sure I want to go that route now with these new units, unless I use a 958c

Anyway, wondering what you guys think of the new models and if you've read anything about them.

Yes there are differences. The xx9 series do have the internal antenna, BUT can ice the external antennas, which are heard to be more accurate at slower speeds, I'm not sure if they've resolved these issues with the newer units. Also, they do not have the screw in attachment for the Ethernet , it's in the cable bongle, but you have to but a 20 buck adapter to attach it to the Ethernet. Lastly, ( I might be wrong on this one) they include the 1 step lower transducer for each unit. You can upgrade through humminbird as long as you don't use the transducer that came with the unit for a fee, I think humminbird is trying to give the masses affordable stuff, but if you want it upgraded to the units maximum potential, you gotta pay a little more, ie the external gps antenna and transducer. Did I miss anything?

The new models do have internal antenna, but it is much improved over first units. If networked with other units you can set it to use a puck you already have mounted, or you can upgrade the new gps puck that also has heading sensor in it. You do need a dongle for the ethernet. There is no change I am aware of as far as the ducer they are shipped with. They have also improved the processor to be able to keep up with all of the available add-ons available.

Thanks for your input guys. Guess I will have to see what's available a couple months from now and decide what to do then.
