Posts: 216 | Looking at picking up a new 9' one piece Ti rod for my birthday comin up in April and need a little help choosing power. I'll be throwing big tens, mag dawgs,12" jakes and perchbaits, big hardheads and other large cranks. I would also like to use it to troll these same lures and even some bigger like the 13" believers and plows. Do you guys think the xheavy should handle this or should I go xxheavy, or is that a little too stiff for trolling ? Thanks guys

Posts: 865 | Go xxheavy, If you want a Big Lure Rod, will still troll fine.....But if you were looking to throw 10's and 10" jakes and mag dawgs, and have a much more versatility then the XH is the rod to get...I Love the XH

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I think I'd get the XXH. I have both rods you are talking about, and the XH is perfect for double 10's up to 8 oz baits like Mag Dawgs and the "large" Hardhead (the 8 oz one, not the Pounder sized Buckethead). I've thrown the 16 oz Buckethead and Pounders on my XH but it's a little too much for that rod and I have to carefully lob the heaviest baits. I use my XH a LOT, I think it's very versatile. However, the XXH has a softer tip than the rating might lead you to believe, and handles lighter baits OK. Keep in mind though, any time you want to cast 3 oz Cowgirls AND Pounder sized baits on the same rod you'll be compromising somewhere, so I'd take a look at what you plan to do the most and let that guide your decision. Posts: 2012 | I have two of each MH, XH and XXH in 9' one piece....For Blades/10's and ripping 10" jakes I'd reach for the XH ,almost every time. I basically just use my XXH's for pounders & dussa's - I love the XXH for rubber (for mags I use the XH and XXH about equally, like the XXH on big fish water, no wimpy hooksets with rubber) ..hate the XXH for blades, even 13's....the rod doesn't load enough in the cast for my preference.

These are my sentiments exactly. The XXH doesn't load well enough on the cast for blades, but fishes Pounders and other big rubber well. If you can swing it, I would honestly get both. You will get plenty of use out of them both.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | If I could go back and re-choose. I would get the XXH. Not because the XH isin't a good rod. But having a stiffer tip on the 8 helps a ton. Plus it still flings the crap out of most things you can throw with it, the XH is better for blades (casting wise) I would actually like to trade out my XH for the XXH but buying a new rod just isin't in the cards. regardless of how inexpensive they are. Get the XXH

Posts: 216 | Thanks to all. I'm going with a xxheavy,I was just alittle concerned it would be to stiff for anything but the biggest stuff. But that dosent sound to be an issue now. I already have an 8'10"heavy custom x that will be paired with a revo toro 5.4 for my dedicated blade rod,so this Ti rod will be mostly for chucking and trolling the big cranks I guess. Thanks agiain

Wow, I hope I won't regret buying the TI xh 9' split grip. It should be at my house today!! It's already in my signature.

Posts: 2012 | Good point PIKEMASTER, I always throw the lightest action softest tip rods I can get away with for the baits I'm throwing....I'd much rather have a 50lber hooked on my MH 9' vs. my XXH.... the big bait craze has caused us to be so over gunned in rods, as far as fighting a muskie... its crazy, I use softer tip rods fighting 200lb Marlin

I agree. You'll lose more fish using the XXH.

Posts: 131 Location: Lake St. Clair | I have 2 XXH and cant say a bad thing about them. Great rods for sure. James is great to deal with and I really enjoy doing business with someone who "gets it" I throw pounders and D10's from June until September and these rods are workhorses. I even use them in the spring throwing 8 oz swimbaits and really like them for that application as well. IMO they are everything a St Croix is as far a ability and way more economical! TI Rods are great and you wont be disappointed!!
