It can be very good that time of the year. The past few years we have had pretty stable weather and that only helps a lot. Plus you basically have the lake to yourself.

So the crowd really dies down in september? I figured since july and august were such busy months it would naturally spill over into september.
Thanks for the input guys.

yes ....there is not anywhere close the boat traffic in September. Even by the end of August the boat traffic is 1/2 compared to mid July.

My brother (Goose007us) and I were up in the Angle last year the third week of Sept. Fishing was good. The week before they had some 70-80 deg weather and then dropped to 40's when we got there. Fish were spread out some in transition although we did catch multiple fish from one location. Once we figured out the pattern both of us got PB. We didn't see another boat for the first three days. Probably saw half a dozen the whole week.

I fish east end of partimage bay and east end of the big narrows and everything in between and rarely see another boat in September...

A lot will depend on water conditions at that time of year. My experience over the past 45 years or so is that early September can be a pretty hard time to catch fish.

If you happen to hit a big algae bloom fishing will be pretty slow in the dark water areas of the LOTWs. However, there does seem to be a recent trend toward cleaner water, no one know why for sure. The last four-five years have been pretty good, as the water has stayed fairly clean.

The reason there's no one else fishing at this time of year is because over the past many years this has been a tough time to catch fish.

This may be changing, but it's up to Mother Nature, and you know how she can be.

Fishing been good in our end the past few years. Water clarity has been good too so that can certainly be part of it, but fish are still fish and will be around and eating.

I love September casting and wish I could fish that month. If I could only cast one month of the year it would be September because crowds are way down.

Cannot argue with Doug's experience, but I would offer...after 22 years in the resort business, that September crowds are down because vacation time is mostly over. Summer vacations are done, kids are back in school and busy with activities. High school football practice starts in August for example. Lots of teachers that fish are back in the classroom. People sometimes don't like that the days are shorter and choose summer to get more time on the water without having to fish well into darkness.

Give me September anytime on Lake of the Woods.

In my opinion the last two weeks of Aug. and the first week of Sept. is the absolute peak for big topwater fish, in the North country.
