What is the best bucktail rod out there? (specifically St. Croix, I thought I saw somebody post that they liked an 8 foot Avid - I checked and was unable to locate an 8 ft'er?)

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

You won't find an 8" Avid, but the 8'Premiere is hard to beat. And it handles more than just bucktails.

I think the best one by far is a 7'6" Thorne Bros. Diamondback.  MH or M depending on how light you want to go.  The MH is lots more versatile with other baits.

I have a 8' St. Croix Premier that I like, but picked up a 8" Fig Rig the middle of last summer and I like it alot.

The new blanks Fig Rig is using this year are awesome...super light weight

They have a medium heavy , and a medium both in 8'...check them out, they are sweet!

I have an 8' Thorne Bros Diamondback custom that my wife says I should marry. Very light for a rod of this length. If you know what you like, a custom is a nice way to go.

Hawk,

St. Croix doesn't have an 8' Avid just yet, they have a 7'6" Avid that
rocks and an 8' Premier. I would go with the 7'6" Avid for bucktails.

My favorite bucktail rod is the old 7 ft St. Croix Premier, I wish they still made it. I know they still make a 7 ft Premier but it is now made from a different blank which gives it a different action.

The one that I like the best now is the 8 ft. Premier. It is a great bucktail rod. It will cast # 5 Mepps a country mile. Good luck and God bless.
