everyone has their opinion of moon phases. I think fishing underfoot is the most productive on full and new moon, but all lunar activitey has an impact IMO

Probably one of the best bites of the season if the weather cooperates. I believe moonset, sunset, and fullmoon peak are within an hour or so of each other

That would be moonrise, not set, occuring at the same time as sunset.

Why would max % illumination occurring at moonrise improve the bite? Just curious.

Time will tell how good it is.

I think over time your odds will increase if you can be on the water during the major solunar periods.

That said, it's been the days leading up to the full and new moon where I've had my best luck.

I planned an entire season around new moon and full moon days some years back. According to my records, it was my worst season to date. Since then, I just plan my trips when I can fish and hope for the best. About the only consistent pattern I've ever run across is that you will usually see some activity at moonrise.

I keep pretty accurate records of my catches in terms of time of catch/encounter, wind direction and speed, cover, barometer, skies, etc...... seems that there is definitely a serious correlation between fish activity and moon times. There are far more sightings/catches of fish in general, not just musky, within 45 minutes before and after of the peak times. I'm a firm believer in fishing around the moon times...It's become quite interesting to keep track and see if the activity is related to any of the six moon/sun times on that given day.

I don't know about anybody else---- but EVERYDAY is a good day to go musky fishing---- I don't think the moon phase makes a difference--- unless it wants to chip in for gas????

A person can only find what they are looking for ... If you want to find a connection with the Moon, then you can.

While I disagree fundamentally with Dunlap about being able to find a connection in anything (that's why we have the scientific method) I agree with his statement in this regard. Beings the hard data that people claim points to a correlation between moon set/rise/underfoot/overhead/phase etc only shows a 3% difference in catch rates between prime and worst time (according to the moon) it's statistically insignificant. Does that mean I'm going to ignore moon activity?.. Of course not, just don't be a slave to it. Weather plays a far larger role in fish activity. Either way, you will never catch anything from your couch so give it a shot.

Statistically I still suck at this sport so I'll take any edge (mental or factual) I can get

Statistically speaking, I suck worse. But muskie fishing is like sex, even when it's bad, it's still fun.

My worst days fishing were still more fun than anything else I would have been doing.

It's the Beaver Moon. Ask Mr. Wild how important it is.
