Location: Germantown, WI | I have not been to canada before but thinking of taking my son this summer( he is 9) and can outlast me on the water most trips!!!
Here is what I'm looking for
- drive to location
-want to take my own boat
- American plan so we don't have to cook
- decent cabins
- remote wilderness feel
- opportunity for multi-species (walleye, musky, smallies, and pike)
- spots where we aren't in big water settings..... I am fine with big water, just so we have plenty of spots to get out of wind if necessary
- July or August likely timeframe
- I don't want to travel 15 miles just to fish good spots
- nice resort hosts, helpful with map marking etc.
Wow that is quite a list as I re-read it.....I guess I might be picky!!
So many options , just want to pick some of your brains on places to consider that you have been to or would like to soon that meet most of my requests

Location: West Metro, MN | I think you would really like the NW Angle portion of Lake of the Woods. I have stayed at Angle Outpost before and it sounds like what you are looking for. I really enjoyed fishing the NW Angle portion of LOTW because it didn't fish like big wather at all and it seemed like every island or reef should hold a fish. I was there in October, but I know that pretty much all of LOTW is a popular spot in July and Aug.
I have also stayed at Cedar Point Lodge on Eagle Lake and would go back there in a second. Nice accomodations and people and Eagle Lake is a really interesting lake to fish, but I would say that if your goal is to just catch a muskie or two the odds are higher on LOTW. |

Location: NE PA | I took my father to the NW angle on LOTW last year and we had a blast. Muskie, pike, smallies, walleyes, ect..We took our own boat and never had to take more than a short ride to fish out of the wind . We fished the entire first week without a guide, and saw 22 muskies the first day and a half without going more than a few minutes from camp. As far as the lodge goes, we stayed at Sportsman Lodge on Oak Island. Great staff, good prices, but I'm sure than anywhere you went on the NW angle would be good fishing.

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | The Angle is great but you are going to have to boat into just about every camp as they are on the islands. If you are looking for a drive to place that is kid friendly might want to consider something like Cedar Lake. Cedar Point Resort does American plan and is secluded away from the other camps mostly. The lake is shaped so that weather would never be an issue in terms of big water concerns, but the lake big enough to keep you busy for sure. |

Location: Syracuse, Indiana | I took my oldest son to AML when he was not much older than yours is now. He loved it. 4WD trips were each an adventure, and he still talks about them (10-15 years later). The fly-in trips were incredible action (Herbie sent us to the right spots). While AML doesn't have a boat ramp, they will help you launch at the govenment dock. Highly recommended. |

| Fireside Lodge is a great place for kids. Its on the expensive side of drive to american plan resorts, but the food is good and the lodging is nice. Smaller system with great muskie/pike action and the smallmouth fishing is some of the best in Ontario. Check out their website and see what you think. |

Location: West Virginia | I took my son up when he was nine and we had a blast. We fished the Indian Lake Chain and stayed at Therriens Forest Lake Lodge. Lots of fish and affordable. Topwater is real productive. You can also take the boat to the eagle river from there and get sick of catching pike if the musky action slows down. Lots of little lakes to trailer to also.
