Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I'm going to buy a few more bucktails and want to get something with marabou and flashabou. I'm looking at the shumway flasher or little giant flasher vs the musky mayhem big birds or electric bunny. Who has experience with the shumway bucktails? I would like some feedback on how they run and the quality of the components compared to MM. I run a lot of DCG's but am not partial to either...I just want the "best" ones for holding up to multiple fish and best movement in the water. The MM looks like the flashabou has more flash being just silver vs the shumway being colored to match the bait... Any thoughts would be appreciated, Adubs

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | For 10's i prefer the MM, simply because they reel easier and I've landed more fish on them. For 8's I love me some Flashers. I buy a new one (silver/black) every year, and by the end of the year it's pretty well hairless due to being crunched. They still catch fish without the hair, but I like looking at it back there. Other than suckers it is my top producing bait.

Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I've been contemplating that a lot! I looked at buying a boggs tackle maker and making my own but I already have about 40 bucktails and don't think I would really make that many more to justify buying all the things I would need to make them myself. It would be fun to do though!!

Posts: 8828 | I love my flashers. Might have gotten a bad batch or something, but my older ones seem to hold up much better than the newer ones. Seems like the newer ones from the last few years start shedding right away, and one fish will take most of the marabou right off. Then there's the Giant Flashers. First bit of advice is to dunk them a few times and get them wet before you try throwing them. There's so much marabou tied to those things it's like throwing a parachute when they are dry. I love them, but out of all the double 10's out there, they pull harder than any other that I have tried. The little bit of tinsel in the back combined with the marabou really makes it look like something that's alive. Pretty sure the fish don't really care about the skirt material, but when I watch one of those coming through the water, I expect it to get eaten. That said, I really don't throw the giant flasher that much, because those things just hurt.

Both baits rock. Love the way Flashers pulse in the water but I have to agree with EA as in the new Flashers absolutely do not hold up the way they used to. Seems about 2-3 years ago something changed and the quality is no where what it used to be.

Posts: 441 | I used to throw Shumway flashers, all the time. I had the same problem though, marabou would come off, easily. Not made like they used to. I make my own marabou and feather bucktails, now. It's fun to do in the off-season. Although I'm getting a little carried away. I can't stop making them.

Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | The flashers absolutely catch fish! I haven't had any problems with the maraboo but I also throw a lot of tinsel. Get some of the 8's, you'll like them.

Posts: 109 Location: Pewaukee, WI | It's really tough to beat Shumways Mariboo Flashers. The Little Giants and #8 Flashers work great. In the spring my best producing spinner is the #7 Screamer. Really well built, never had any trouble with the feathers coming apart.
