I know this has been brought up a million times but im looking for another reel i can throw large baits magdawgs to pounders to big blades. I have a Saltist 40 now that works ok for me but wouldnt trust it with a couple of my fishing partners, i can see my baits flying away fast since they dont know how to work the spool very well. Im not looking to break the bank i was thinking i would buy used and hit up the swap meets at the muskie show or look here, i was looking in the $150-$200 range. The Revo caught my eye but wasnt sure what else out there might fitin that range if anything?

I did see that that was one on my radar but is the gear ratio to high to burn 10's?

Yes, too high a ratio for 10's.

Tought to do it all with 1 reel. Calcutta 400 or 700 might be your best bet here.

I agree but beware of it's size if you don't like big reels. Other than that the thing is a Powerhouse!

Bit more that 200 but the new lexa 400 is quite nice. Comes in left had to. I got the HSL which is 7:1 for $228 shipped to my house on eBay. They make lower ratios that I imagine are pretty good reels for bigger baits. I just like a lot of line pick up for rubber baits.

Why not buy the reg Toro and put new gears in it? Still a cheap yet proven option for around 250. Very easy to use as well.

You can get the lexa 400 now for $200 shipped and the lexa 300 for $150 shipped. Amazon or eBay, forgot which one.

I was looking at the Lexas but don't they have plastic gears I'm not gonna be burning 10s a ton but still don't want to burn a reel up from general use

I believe there is a pinion bushing that's plastic that could potentially wear out, that was discussed a couple times in the last year as a POTENTIAL weakness. So far I've heard nothing but good about the lexas. I plan on buying one in early spring, hoping they might drop a little more.
