Best Way to shorten the lip on a crank bait to make it run shallow? I have heard grinding it down, anyone do this before?

best buy a new lure. normally baits and lips are designed as 1 unit.

Use a disc sander. That way you can get it straight.

It also depends on the angle of the lip....If the lure is designed to be a deeper diver and you try shortening the lip, often times it will not run properly if at all. I would certainly take small amounts off at a time and test and repeat.

I've used a file. If you're removing a lot I would use a belt sander and finish with the file.
