Posts: 241 | I can see how Bondy Baits are different but what about tube baits vs. 'dawgs? Especially when vertical jigging. Aren't they basically the same thing? Is there a technique that is specific to one type of plastic as opposed to the other? Backdraft

Dawgs have always tangled for me when fished vertically. The back hook gets caught on the leader too much.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Tubes can be just as effective or even better as Bondys for vertical jigging, especially when the water is clear. I've out fished my buddy a few times on the DR using RO tubes while he used Bondys. I still prefer a Bondy over a tube most of the time. I've gotten away from using RO tubes, mainly because they tear up to easy. Sold most of them I had here on M1st. Dawgs suck for vertical jigging IMO. You could try adding weight to the back hook hanger to make the dawg fall more horizontally but tubes & Bondys still work better for a vertical presentation.

Posts: 256 Location: plant earth | I'm not zib but jimmy and Titan tubes are pretty good. Jon bondy also has a monster grub tale I caught a couple of pics of not sure on the name or the size of the tales but they looked in the neighborhood of 10 to 12 inches.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Zinox - 11/5/2013 5:13 PM Zip, what kind of tube do you prefer? I started off using the 7.5" Red October Ninja tubes then switched to their 10" tubes. In the river I rig the tubes with the 3oz Red October jig heads that you can attach the treble on the bottom. The treble snags up more but the hook-ups are a lot better than a rig with just the single hooks on the top (most strikes hit the head of the tube). Next year I plan on trying some of the bigger Water Wolf tubes to see if they hold up better than the Red October tubes.

Posts: 1100 | Same tube i prefer, tried some of the smaller water wolf tubes, but they were to small for me, so they haven't got mutch time in the water. Also tried the "2 single hook" set up and i only hooked into one fish yet with it, but have had several takes.
