| In the market to getting either an SUV or a Truck I havent had a boat in 2 years I used to tow my old one with a 2005 Dodge Ram I was wondering what you guys were using or what you would use if you had the oppertunity something that tows easily and gets decent gas mileage. I'm looking at getting an 18' Nitro NX882 or something similar let me know what you guys are using |

Location: WI | The 5.3vortex gets 17 to 18 mpg day to day and 15 is pulling my 18 ft tourney pro. Tahoes pull that size boat great. And buy the way the 6.2l has lots of power but doesn't get decent mileage going down hill. My buddy just bought a f150 with Eco boost. That's a 6 cyl turbo. He gets over 20 pulling a 17 foot prince craft. Little lighter than what your lookin at but probably a good option. I've never been a ford guy but that's probably my next truck. |

My Tundra is not great on fuel. Around 16 mpg towing a light boat. |

| It towed it less than 1000', on a flat surface, hardly any air in the tires, in 4 wheel drive, and a modified hitch. |

Location: Land of the Musky | NOT a GMC. Have a GMC 1500 and just put a new trannnny in it for $3k at 58,000 miles. Hardly ever use it for towing. 11.5 mpg for just the truck moving and 8mpg towing. HORRIBLE vehicle but LOL I own free and clear it so I use it 
My next truck will probably be a Toyota. all my friends with them love them.

| Two new interesting options I am currently looking at are the ram 1500 and the new Nissan Titan. Both are going to be offering a diesel option. Diesels are the way to go when towing anything as they generally offer higher torque with better efficiency and longevity. I know several people with diesel motors that have over 400,000 miles on them with just routine service and no major overhauls. The Nissan is supposed to be offered with a new v-8 diesel from cummins. The ram is currently offering v-6. I was not impressed with the f-150 ecoboost When I drove it. |

Your fuel economy wont improve enough to make up the difference in the lifetime of the vehicle. Not to mention the 60-70 cent difference in fuel cost. Service costs are also higher. Unless your pulling a 15,000lb boat, your just wasting money. |

| Resale value is generally much higher if you ever need to sell it and the trucks last much longer. I use my trucks for more than just the boat. I also like the towing capacity to be rated significantly higher than the amount I'm actually going to be towing. I have towed many times with lighter gas vehicles and just feel more comfortable when I'm not pushing the limits of the vehicle. |

I saw a guy sliding through a red light towing a large speed boat with his highlander out of control. I guess he thought since a toyota towed a spaceship he was good to go.
I guess he forgot to let a bit of air out of the tires... |

| Just read a story that Ram is coming out with a 1500 series diesel. It is a smaller engine, rated 25 mpg, but still has a 9,000 pound tow rating. Uses the 8 speed trans. Innovative engine, paired with a great transmission used by a number of different companies, with good mileage when not towing. Has over 400 lbs. of torque. |

Location: Minnesota | have a 2012 chevy avalanche pull a 2012 skeeter MX 1825 I get around 12 mpg .I could get better but I drive 75 to 80 mph so I don't expect to get good milage |
