Has anyone tried muskie flyfishing? Mainely looking at flyfishing during summer month when muskies like to hang out on reefs and just follow. Never tried it just got a new fly rod and am thinking hay this might catch there interest.

There is a guy who guides for musky out of ghost lake lodge near hayward that is strictly a flyfisherman. Met him, nice guy has alot of great stories and catches alot of musky. Dan Edwards I believe his name is.

Fly fishing for muskies on small water is excellent. A good initiation would be a spot like Day Lake. A little smaller water, more focused area's limit the amount of casting which helps.

The hot ticket is to have some big decievers, whistlers or big bunny leech patterns and throw them as a pitch back to a hot fish. You can do some really crazy stuff with big flies you cannot do with hard baits or even soft plastics. Try stalling them out to suspend, or lay one right on their nose and move real seductivly. It's a hoot!

Any stout 10wt tackle will do the trick and the new "knotable" wire leader material makes rigging easier.

Hi,
Not sure if this will help because I do not know hardly anything on this topic, but I did catch my first flyrod muskie this past summer. I had one fish patterned that I could not get to eat for the life of me. So I went after it with a fly rod and it just sucked the damn thing in like candy. Pretty sweet taking on a muskie with what feels like a whip and hand controlling the line. I tie my own streamers and divers and they seem to work really well, at least to me. So far it has worked great to dissect spots but it has been very timely. Although I can't wait to use it as a throw back lure. Post any info you obtain or learn.]
