| It's self-induced...a few years ago I paid $1 each for 20" suckers over by you. With all the publicity the demand is up and baitshops aren't dumb! |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I stopped into the Tackle Box in Land O Lakes last weekend and paid 6.00 per medium sucker. Large were 8.00. They've pretty much had the same prices for the last 3 years.
Who's asking 10.00? and what size? |

Exactly. They are going to charge as much as they can if they know people will pay. The demand is still greater than the supply in most areas, simple economics. |

| I can pretty well guarantee that the NY strips will taste better than both the muskies you might have caught and thrown back, AND the suckers.
What's the problem? Buy the steaks and leave yourself something to look forward to at the end of the day besides a few pixels or a piece of glossy paper.  |

| Kind of funny. I had a nightmare 2 nights ago. Cabelas started selling sucker minnows and had a huge bait tank with thousands of awesome sized suckers. I ordered 3 of them and the guy rang it up and they were 37.00 a piece. |

| Cost of suckers for bait shops are 4.59 to 5.00 bucks a piece.now buy some tanks and pumps and pay the electric and add in your losses from mortality.then you can pay insurancey and employes and you can tell the bait shops how much to charge for bait! If a bait shop looses one sucker you just gave a free one away get it! |

thought of netting a few by a nearby creek by us, then I thought 6-8$ apiece is not bad as I abandoned that idea. Have a buried tub in the back which we keep a dozen in in the fall for easy access. |

| In addition to the cost of purchase, equipment, etc., there is another cost that two shops mentioned to me in explaining why they no longer carried musky suckers. Both were in the Rhinelander area and both had been burned by guys calling ahead of time, saying they needed a couple dozen musky suckers and would be in on X date. The stores ordered, and the guys never came. They were stuck with expensive, hard to keep alive stock. Both stopped ordering them in part because fo that. Another shop that still sells them told me the same story. They said unless someone advanced them money, they would not order suckers for folks to pick up. |

Once again, you have no clue of each individual bait shops costs so that is a ridiculous comment. Just because Walmart charges $x.00 amount for something doesn't mean everyone else who charges more is "gouging". Man I am far from smart but I feel like a genius when I read this thread! |

| Just got back from Iron county WI, Paid $6 for up to around 14" $8 for the largest ones. A little Higher than I would like to see----But -- Still worth it for me as I really like sucker fishing. I have enough lures to last a lifetime so spending on a dozen or so suckers is worth it to me. |

| Wow remind me to buy suckers at home! 12 bucks for a dozen but hard to find and cannot get bigger then 12 inches. I am feeling happy with our prices now! At 8 bucks a piece I think I would throw artificial and buy steak to eat instead! Besides I have had them come in hard on someone else's lure huge ones reel in sucker once fish left there figure eight and the fish bumps the sucker and leaves... throw another lure they come back mind you this was warmer water temps 50/50 chance I usuallt use suckers when they slow down or I eat. Something is more rewarding about catching them on an artificial fun to play with and name of the game. |

| My son and I have started trying to catch our own...but this past weekend we ended up having to buy a few...they were $4.25 a piece which I didn't think was bad at all. I guess it depends on your location and availability.. |

Whatever happened to working hard and catching fish the old fashioned way casting? It seems like every Walleye Guy on the planet comes out of the wood work now when they can drag some meat... No wonder so many 50 inchers have been kept out of some of our lakes lately, guess some of these guys don't understand the concept of catch and release, frustrating to say the least.. |

| Thursday 10/11/2013, Thorne Brothers, $8, 17" minnow. Same price I've paid the last 3 years. Going to be used for my 4 1/2 yr old's very first sucker trip on Sunday. Very exciting!
Dave if you think it is bad up there you do not want to know what it is like in the Metro.
I do agree that a catch casting an artifical is the penultimate musky experience and far more challenging overall. However, I enjoy sucker fishing even if it is presentation easy mode. It is a very relaxing way to fish and the way I do it, it ends up being a very visual experience which is my favorite part of this sport. It is also the best way I can take some of my non-fishing friends out and have them enjoy a legitimate opportunity to bag a big fish.

Bingo ! with crappy tools, small or no nets, ugly stick rods with 20lb mono and a "let em take it " mentality. This is a big problem here in town.
